if you baby 18 to 25 yr olds into thinking they are still kids, they will act that way and it is partly your fault. I am surprised I have to say this to an older generation, but maybe that is the problem in the first place.

No.

unless the kid was building a pressure cooker bomb in his apt, they should let him go.

If he's stupid enough to do this, he deserves jail. Anyone and everyone in this day and age knows that these type of threats are taken seriously, and he does it anyway- a 19 year old not a 12 year old. Hi ho hi ho, off to jail he goes.

Pretty sure this kid went to Vestavia High School here in Bham. Think he was an Eagle Scout and shite.

In other news, why isn't this on the Bama board, or the Poliboard?

What an idiot.
With all these crazies posting videos boasting about what crime they're about to commit (like that UC Santa Barbara college kid who decided he was going to go on a shooting spree around a sorority house cause he gets turned down by women too much/never been kissed), plus that nutcase dude who killed his girlfriend then posted the pics of it on his FB page - you'd think that kid would have better sense to have any sort of involvement in this matter.

No way this kid needs to be sent to prison - he made a very stupid decision, but in this case, the punishment (prison) would not fit the crime

My guess is that he gets a few weeks in county or city lock-up; a few years of community service; huge fines and probation for something like 5 years

I am sure he is already kicked out of school - I think the kid is from Virginia

prison for him would serve no purpose for anyone

I agree completely. He did something incredibly stupid and needs to pay the consequences. But unless someone determines he's an actual threat, literally no good will come of hitting him with hard time. All you do is ruin his life and pretty much ensure his future is limited to either menial work or crime. That benefits absolutely no-one, least of all "society." I get the tough-on-crime narrative, but there are just too many cases where going full-bore is neither rational nor ethical.

200 hours of community service is a practical sentence.
