ESPN doesn’t have the pull it did just 5 years ago. They’re a dying network.

One does wish. We don't need them running and ruining sports with that Disney-liberal fairytale virtue signalling crap.

Not when they get some new SEC deal that includes Oklahoma and Texas. ESPN is about to make bank.

ESPN is owned by Disney. I think they'll be alright

Look at the tv agreements with the Big 12, tu, SEC, and the new negotiation with the SEC. The pieces match. Just wait until the Big 12 gets out of their deal so this gets done much sooner than 2025.

Nope:

The Playoff Expansion to 12 teams made this all but inevitable. Stop and think, the SEC, and the other big time football teams create the brand and incentives for the Playoffs. You have all this G5 teams who did nothing to develop the brand so to speak that created the playoff. In fact, what started it was LSU and Bama's 2011 where LSU won the regular season match up SEC title and Bama won the rematch for the old BCS Title (no need to review the 21-0 shutout, we all saw it).

So from that you get playoffs although no doubt ESPN talked about the need for a playoff after 2 SEC teams got in the playoff and within 2 weeks after that game, a 4 team playoff was put together. From there, there were talks about expansion after last year and then the 9-0 Supreme Court decision against the NCAA. But pay careful attention to Kavanaugh's opinion that is quoted in the article.

LINK

Someone here with a Law Degree can chime in, but Kavanaugh's opinion and you look at Gorsuch's opinion, where he said the lawsuit only dealt with NIL, not across the board compensation, you can see where this is potentially going.

So:

1) Expanded 12 team playoff
2) Transfer Portal, which is College Free Agency, lets call it what is.
3) NIL

So what could in theory come later, compensation paid to the student athletes which means more $$$$$ are going to be needed to compete at the top level of College sports.

The only deal ESPN will need is the SEC.

Still can't believe CBS wanted out. They had the premiere games in the greatest conference by a longshot to themselves.

Nah, ESPN blows, they are like MTV, they use to do sports now they have talking head and mainly talk about rumors and entertainment stuff. Less about sports and more about click-bait. See Stephen A for the depth of analysis. They are talking heads, not analyst. And do not forget Tom Renaldy with his piano music human interest crap.
