I've always been a bit surprised Mizzou doesn't have men's soccer. Both St. Louis and Kansas City are hot beds of soccer. Other parts of the country have caught and surpassed those 2 areas, but they remain hot beds to this day. Columbia, lying halfway in between both cities, seems to be a natural for taking advantage of it.

As for lacrosse, never watched it but since it's a yankee sport, I say bring it on.

I'd personally like to see all SEC teams pick up ice hockey, mens and womens, and invest in rinks. I hear the environment for non-NCAA hockey games at Kentucky is pretty cool.

Probably would cost too much though, and college hockey isn't high in popularity.

However i think wrestling should be the next sport. Mizzou has a top 10of program, and the state of Georgia and florida have great talent pools to pull from ntm all of the kids schools could recruit from Pennsylvania and Ohio. Due to the weather alone.

Agreed, and there is a huge base of youth and high school kids who wrestle, Title IX has killed sports like wrestling. Mizzou has done a lot in Georgia running camps and such. Mizzou also has recruited Tennessee well for wrestlers.

The purpose of Title IX was to change attitudes about women's sports and to give them a chance to be established. That's done now. Title IX now just hurts the men's sports and prevent thousands of men from getting a free education every year.

The purpose of Title IX was to promote equal opportunities for men and women. In the area of sports, prior to Title IX, men had thousands of scholarships that enabled them to get a free education that were not available to women.

What you are advocating is a return to the good old days of allocating more university resources for men by adding new men's sports with no corresponding new opportunities for women, and, in fact, taking away some of the opportunities now available from them to fund new scholarships for men.

A different and more lawful approach might be to add Lacrosse (or whatever) for both men and women.

All I am advocating is an exemption for football so that the other men's sports don't have to sacrifice 85 scholarships to make up for it. Essentially it would make it possible to add more sports. It also would fix the irregularities of ship limitations in different sports. You are correct that baseball/softball is close. However T&F is 18 for women, 12.6 for men. Soccer is 12 to 9.9. Golf is 6 to 4.5. Volleyball is 12 to 4.5. Rowing is 20 to 0. Equestrian (which is a co-ed) is 15 to 0. There are also a few sports that go the other way but none of it makes sense. Just have equal scholarships for the sports.

If a HS girl can shoot below 80 she can likely get a college scholarship. For men it is extremely difficult. How is that fair? Football simply doesn't have a crossover and with 85 scholarships it screws up the system. Wrestling is almost as bad, not many women wrestle and there are no NCAA women's wrestling teams I believe.

I'd just like to see men's soccer and men's volleyball and other sports have a chance. I also think it is fundamentally unfair that the number of scholarships is "equal" when the interest and participation in the sports by gender is so out of whack. Just make the rule that if you have sport x you have to have it in both genders with equal scholarships for men and women and have exemptions for football and possibly wrestling. You could probably allow Equestrian to go to men or women as that is how the sport is played and there is no natural advantage to either sex.

SEC is already ahead of the curve in terms of setting up a conference comparised on traditional conference affiliations compared to other FBS conferences.

Plus there is a large population of women rugby players too.

First off, nice avi, tiger style. I have frequnted that camp and the one in columbia as well. Mizzou also got a 4x NCAA qualifier from Georgia. Would be great to get it going again
