The sec championship has been a risk since 1992

If eventual world champion bama had lost to Florida- no natty
96 uf- if they lost to bama no natty- however winning the sec may have slightly helped in the polls but I think with the chaos they would have been 2 anyway
98 Vols- idk with a loss to miss st in the sec title. Maybe. K state lost the conference as well
2001 Vols - lost playing for a world title due to sec championship
2008 Bama same
2009 Florida same
Didn’t Auburn get booted one of these years for losing to Georgia and bama got in I can’t remember.
So what makes it more risky now?

We technically won the SEC championship last year because we lost a close game to Georgia
Don’t believe me? Ask any of us Longhorns

The only real danger I see is the potential for key players to get hurt. Given the shorter window between the SEC CG and the 1st round of the playoffs, it could be an issue (See 2024 UGA). Otherwise, it's the same and I agree.

similar to why Jay Johnson and Kim Mulkey don't put any stock into the SEC championship playoffs in their respective sports. unless it postively or negatively impacts their post season standings, is it worth it?

And in 2004 we didn't get any bump at all for winning the game.
