We've actually held Yell on the steps of multiple Capitols.
It's not meant to insult anyone; and I'm sure if there are SC folks who view the location as disrespectful, the Yell Leaders and the Association of Former Students will do all they can to move it.
It sounds like you're more up to speed on the story than am I (I haven't followed it at all).
We couldn't care less where it's held.
If we're asked to move, we'll likely accommodate.
The reason Capitols are often chosen has more to do with logistics/easy identification for visitors.
Contrary to the trolling some are doing in this thread, Yell is not supposed to send a message of "we're here; frick you."
It's truly just a way for Ags to gather.

Here's my best recollection:
The yell leaders came from a practical joke that seniors played on a couple of freshmen. They had them dress up in janitors outfits and tell "fables" (disparaging stories about the other team) in order to entertain them and the women from TWU who were in town that weekend (mind you, this was in the 30's). When they noticed that their dates were paying more attention to the freshmen than to them, they pulled them out, put the uniforms on themselves, and took over.
"Farmers Fight" used to be much slower and to the tune of taps (this was what "Texas Fight" was ripped off of FWIW).
"Gig 'Em" came from playing the horned frogs (gigging the frogs)
"Military" is all about "killing" the class ahead of you. It has to do with the adage about "old Soldiers". They never die, they just fade away. Aggies didn't want to "fade away", so traditionally, the seniors are "shot down" by the juniors at the end of the year.
The WHOOP is easy...train whistle. "Hullaballoo, Caneck Caneck" is the train whistle followed by the sound of the train wheels on the tracks. "Chigaroogarem" is the sound of a train engine.
OLD ARMY = any class older than yours
Not sure about the origins about the others.
Those are great stories and origins of tradition ...
So I'm sure y'all will now all agree not to hold your yell practice on the steps of our hallowed Statehouse grounds ... amirite?
I mean if anyone can understand why ... it should be y'all.

Twenty-five pages in and I still can't tell if this is a serious thread or not.
It's such a ludicrous thing to get worked up over. Maybe it comes from a misunderstanding of what Midnight Yell is on y'alls part and what your State House is on ours.
If this is real and it's that big an issue, just move the Yell. It really isn't that big a deal.

If you haven't learned yet, you will
If you have to cross the tracks to get to class I would plan on budgeting some extra time

SC is a funny place. We could be totally wrong on an issue but if you ain't from here and try to enlighten us we will probably pick a fight.

We've seen what your midnight yell is about, it's all over youtube.
Most of us don't want y'all doing that stuff on our statehouse grounds.
I do think y'all do not understand what that statehouse and those grounds means to many of us ... it's hallowed ground. Some of our younger people don't get it, but neither do a lot of young liberal Texans get what it took for Texas to be independent. Young people .... it takes them time to appreciate sacrifices.
So yeah, it's a big deal. I hope it does get moved. I understand y'all have been presented with a number of nice, more suitable alternatives. I hope y'all will accept and agree to move it closer to the stadium and help keep the potential for a nice friendly respectable rivalry like our two states should.

A&M is in a city named College Station. It was basically a train stop/station, which made it a good area for an Agricultural college back in the day.
The tracks used to be on the west side of campus, but the university has grown so large that the tracks now run right through.

Simply a result of tradition/history.
Back in the day, the railroad was the town.
And the town/college was built around a train station.
When the cadets used to take the train from home, back to school, they were notified of their train stop by the conductor as such: "Next stop: the college station."

We can't all be as likeable and charismatic as you scrooster. Don't you have kids on your lawn to yell at or something?

That's what I meant. It's not a big deal to move the Yell if everybody is going to go Dec. 1860 over it.

My mom has told me several times of her grandmother telling her that SC should've been the 'don't tell me what to do state'. We'll do things for no other reason then because we were told not do it.
