Folks won't believe it because it goes against the grain of what they want to believe but rural America is no safer and often less safe than urban areas and major cities. The per capita violent crime rate is pretty similar between major metro areas and rural areas. I moved from a pretty rough area of the west side of Atlanta to an extremely rural area east of Athens Georgia and while living in Atlanta you heard of a couple of murders a day but they were in areas that you had never been to or knew to avoid but the seemingly rare murders in Athens happened in areas frequented by everyone every day. The data suggests that violent crime happens wherever folks are and at similar rates...

Pretty sure one of the ongoing debates is between Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana residents over who has the most corrupt state politicians.



Be hard pressed to beat Louisiana historically but recently Alabama has really worked at gaining ground...
