I may have missed people discussing this but did anyone notice how Chizik kept on pointedly saying "Cam is our starter today" before the game Saturday?
I'm bored. This is entertaining

It's based on an article written by the tuskogee news guy about the FBI and then some speculation because all the guys mentioned are big timers in the Auburn University system. If they are somehow money laundering through the university, Auburn's football program will be the least of the worries for auburn grad's and current students.
All those big timers didn't lose everything, but they do need a way to make what they do have useful again. You think Lowder didn't know his bank was going under? Is he so upstanding that he would not sneak any amount out through all of that? Nope. Thats why the FBI is involved.

I will just say this, you hope your lawyer doesnt talk. Reality is, any of them that have dont have jobs. Attorney/Client privilege.

You really do not know what you are talking about. Lead counsel for disputes involving millions of dollars do not regularly go around telling competing interests confidential attorney/client privileged information. We are talking about a very well known and respected law professor here. Attorneys break rules all the time, but not confidentiality. That is the legal profession's equivalent of a doctor intentionally killing a patient.
Lighten up Francis I'm just messing with you. I am sure that man is a very professional and very well respected attorney. you can't have some assclown in charge of a case like this.
I have met with Dean Funderberg, I think that is his name, at the UNiversity about some things before and I found him to be very professional and I thought highly of him.
If you involved in law in Alabama and you are honest you will admit that there are some very dishonest people that practice law in this state.

My bro is a defense Attorney in Montgomery, just from his stories I've come to the conclusion that Al has to be up there with the most corrupt court system in the US

Just going to throw a couple of things out there.
There is exactly ZERO probability of Gene Marsh telling anything to anyone that is not supposed to be told. He is a well respected lawyer and would never do something like that which could ruin him, etc. Besides - the whole angle that AU hired him is a misrepresentation to feed the Finebaumesque rumor mill. He recently began working at the firm which AU has had on retainer for years to deal with NCAA issues. It is not like AU went and sought him out separate from their normal arrangements.
From the sounds of the rumors, it seems like we might be talking about two different scandals etc. all together. They may be related somehow, but if all this stuff that is being hinted at about Lowder, McGregor and money laundering is true, then this won't be an AD issue - this will be an AU issue, and a big one at that. Cam Newton will be the least of our worries in that case.
I hope and pray that all this stuff is just regular message board rumors but I am nervous about it. I have never liked Lowder and his ilk and if we did something wrong in the AD and we are caught for it I can take that. I just don't want to see the university itself hurt because when that happens you are affecting the lives of so many innocent people, and in a way that matters alot more than football games on Saturday.
I guess there is nothing to do but wring my hand s and wait. Oh well. WDE

I think he was trying to make the point that the FBI doesn't really care about the NCAA football aspects of the Auburn issues. As other posters have noted they could be investigating connections with AU, Mcregor, Lowder, and Colonial Bank. Although at this point it is all rumors surrounding this there sure does seem to be a lot of smoke popping up. The whole Newton issue could be a forgotten afterthought if any of these rumors were to be proven true.

No doubt. The problem we have in this state is that a lot of our judges are crooked and some lawyers are crooked. I think most of our lawyers are pretty good people that just go to work every day and do their job but the real crooked attorney's are the ones that team up with the judges and make the big money.
law is s shitty profession and the integrity left that field years ago.
I have been told that Alabama is one of the most corrupt places in the united states.

what are reece, hubcitytider, and helenatider saying on the issue?
seems like those guys along with w&l are the heavy hitters on BOL.

Basically what he's saying is that Lowder could have been attempting to illegally move money out of the bank. When you're an owner/CEO/Chairman/whatever of a company, you can't just sell your stock. You have to announce that you're doing it in advance, get permission, etc. I don't remember if it was Lehman or Bear Stearns, but the CEO had to sit there and watch 95% of his net worth disappear in front of his own eyes, because he wasn't allowed to sell his shares. So legally, Lowder wasn't allowed to sell his banking stock. Any money he got from Colonial would have been illegally obtained. This is where the whole money laundering angle comes from. It's odd that he is still in charge of the finances at Auburn.

I did. It was overly formal, almost lawyer speak. "Cameron Newton will be the starter today for Auburn University."

I won't lie. I hope your football program gets the book thrown at it if all this shite is true. But I hope Lowder goes to federal pound me in the arse prison and becomes Leroy's girlfriend if he compromised the educational institution.

I don't think so. I understand what you are saying but I think there are so many people involved that they need him to stay in charge at Auburn. It is too big.
I would not be surprised to see the Feds step in and take over Auburn just like they took over his banks.

Well for that matter you must have never been involved in business in South Louisiana at any time. Plaquemines parish has been notorious for many decades now. What the Auburn poster said is correct in that if this really ends up involving improprieties within the university and financial wrongdoing as has been speculated, the fallout would hurt many innocent students, faculty, staff, and graduates. As much as we take vested interests in football in the south there could be more important things at stake here, and I for one hope that isn't the case for the Auburn students, faculty, and alums.
