Why would Auburn hire a retired University of Alabama professor as their attorney if they had any reason to think he would tell UA people what was happening?
Let's just say I am very involved in the legal profession and intentionally breaking client confidentiality is a very very rare and serious thing to do. It will not happen here.

Your speculation is leading you to make bigger leaps than maybe you'll feel comfortable with in retrospect

I'm just throwing it out there, I don't know anything. My guess is as good as the next guys.

I have to say that in alabama it wouldn't surprise me at all for state figures to be caught stealing from a state university. It would actually be the norm in Alabama.

I'm not reaching, I just saw it posted. That seems like a large leap to me.
whoever posted it is an idiot. is it a large leap? sure, the largest single increase ever, but statewide they have been doing the same thing. 12.9% at bama, 13.9% at uab, 15% at uah, 23% at alabama a&m.

to try and justify sneaky shite using that logic is nuts.

Maybe not in the jar at the time. It's just funny that all members are supposed to report to the SEC (him) first, so he can control the flow of information. MSU did report and the info was controlled.

It happens every day. I actually think the University of Alabama will be on Auburns side in this one. I think it could involve a lot of people in this state and this one may end up not having much to do with football at all.

My intuition tells me this as well. I think that is why the FBI has become involved in all of this. They think they can sniff out a money trail starting with Cecil Newton and ending with Pat Dye and Bobby Lowder.

Not scamming from AU. It would have to be AU money to begin with.-------money laundering

i have to say that the tuition increase probably doesnt have anything to do with this. it also went up 13% at alabama. hell, it went up 23% at alabama a&m. youre reaching with that one.

Yup.. and guess why? Fraud and embezzlement.

They were so bold as to hire a janitor as a Dept head and started paying him six figures.

While I hope this inof is true, there is A LOT of drama in this thread based on nothing so far.
It's based on an article written by the tuskogee news guy about the FBI and then some speculation because all the guys mentioned are big timers in the Auburn University system.

If they are somehow money laundering through the university, Auburn's football program will be the least of the worries for auburn grad's and current students.

Kevin Matthews, a former Madison County janitor, became the new chief compliance officer. And Cheatham, who was brought in as general counsel for the institute on July 20 and let go 15 days later, said the bylaws were rewritten to place Matthews on the Institute board with Riggins and Bell, meaning Matthews is, in part, supervising himself.

And according to public records requested by The Times, Matthews is now being paid $100,000 a year.

"The board wanted someone to clean up the Research Institute," said Matthews on Thursday, "and they brought me in."

You really do not know what you are talking about. Lead counsel for disputes involving millions of dollars do not regularly go around telling competing interests confidential attorney/client privileged information. We are talking about a very well known and respected law professor here. Attorneys break rules all the time, but not confidentiality. That is the legal profession's equivalent of a doctor intentionally killing a patient.
