You don't seem to understand that just because a bunch of people moved to Missouri in the 1800s and called an area Little Dixie doesn't mean shite today. Also being a slave state doesn't mean shite today. As for a magazine, I wonder why they use the broadest possible definition of southern? Maybe because that maximizes their readership??
ETA: the hundreds of people going to Missouri from Chicago have a helluva lot more relevance today than some wealthy planter family who moved in to Columbia 200+ years ago

Having spent a decent amount of time in both Fayetteville and Columbia, they aren't that different. Mizzou is just a slightly better school.

I think I'll take the word of a historian/professor who is very knowledgable of southern culture over the Internet message boarder from Arkansas. The point of the article is that Missouri has southern roots that are evident as far north as Columbia, and there's no question that south/southeast Missouri is indeed southern itself.

Hmmm don't know if you're talking about the school or the state. But as far as the state goes Missouri is a GREAT state to live in and raise a family. See lots of people from Arkansas up here, starting to notice more people from Louisiana and Mississippi up here. Oh I can throw in Texas people moving up this way. Not to mention people moving over from Kansas and Oklahoma. We laugh at the KU folks talking shite on the state of Missouri but almost 1/4 of their Alumni live here.
ETA: The poor bastards wanted to get KU specialty plates in Missouri but it got denied because of their refusal to play Mizzou. On a side note Missouri approved Pittsburg State(KS) specialty plates but said no to KU. Talk about a Rivalry.
