I know the point of the Rant is to put down other teams any way you can while building yours up, but I have noticed that the rhetoric regarding Little Bro-ism cuts both ways:

-If a program ignores their little bro status, and acts like they are a proud and worthwhile program independent of any other in the state, then the response is

"Lol, don't you know you are a little bro?"

-If a program embraces their underdog status and tries to take actions to improve their program within the reality of that status then anything positive they do for themselves is painted with the same brush:

"Lol, that is so little bro."

Note I am not asking for sympathy, I am just wondering if anyone can even fathom a third option that is immune to the little bro criticism.

Is there a magical third option for action that is NOT little bro?

And I mean a real option that is doable, not something stupid like "win five national titles in a row and then you are a big bro."

The Big Bro/Little Brother thing is silly. It's funny how it can rattle some.

I don't think it actually rattles anyone. I didn't really care about it myself until I noticed this Catch 22, and that is only because I like examining Catch 22s.

I know, I know. Its like melt, or jimmies, or calling each other hicks. I am not trying to argue that it should go away or something. I am completely comfortable with the little bro status quo.

But just for a mental exercise I think it is interesting that the same criticism is used for every side of the fence. That either makes the little bro critique the best one here, or (what I am guessing) the worst.

The mental exercise is the purpose of the thread.

Are there any other schools with more than two P5 schools in their state in the SEC outside UF, who doesn't really seem to care about big bro/rivalries/sports?

Because while we are extremely little bro to UT, Tech and Baylor are the littlest of bros

Being Little Bro to a traditional power/Big VI type of program can provide a healthy tough love/mentorship type of dynamic. Who's your Big Bro again?

You say that, but that is its own Catch 22:

-If the little bro doesn't win anything, then they can't contribute at all or any of their contributions are "lol, so little bro"

-If they DO win something significant then as soon as they want to beat their chest about it they are faced with "lol, act like you have been here before. That is so little bro"

It is like a viper's nest of Catch 22s. Which is honestly more interesting than the concept of little bro-ism in my opinion.

The little bro thing is wearing itself out. It's used way too often

I am not really talking about the reaction to the little bro criticisms, those can vary with little consistency. There is no magic there.

What is amazing is consistency of the criticisms of little bros. What that shows is that for some people what I have laid out is a VERY effective argument in their minds because they keep running back to it.

This forum is rarely consistent, which makes this Catch 22 kinda special.

Sure, but it is used so often because some people apparently think its effective. Other than a few Aggies who were new to the forum I have never seen the little bro criticism hits its mark, which makes its overuse a mystery.

Hence the thread and the theory. I think the little bro "thing" is wrapped in such a nice little bow that people run to it NOT because of effectiveness but because it is easy to reach and its all inclusive. Like me using a swiss army knife to open all my cans because I don't want to find my real can opener.
