Key here. When they didn't they had good records but lost when it counted.

For Aggie just playing in a big game would be a historic accomplishment for the program.

Apples and oranges. The NFL changed the rules in favor of offense: protect the QBs and allow the WRs to run free. Still, even with the NFL rules as they are, the Super Bowl champ almost always has a great defense, even Green Bay and New England when they won.

I agree. The whole game of football has changed to favor offense, not just the NFL.
I also agree that a championship teams need at least a good defense to complement.
The point really is that the concept that you have to be a power running team out of the Iso to win championships is false.
Thats really the only claim Im making.

It's ok. The NFL is hard. It sucks for Little Nicky when he can't buy all the best players. Playing fair sucks.

I ain't even mad tho. I'm jealous as hell

Not a big fan of the offense as a whole, but it has it's place, obviously in certain parts of the game (at the end of halves, or periodically to equalize a lack of depth, or to keep a key player on the other team off the field), but the disadvantages of running this continuously for more than say even 20 percent of an entire game over-ride it's benefits for quality teams with pure talent that don't need gimmicks anyway.

Really, I think its only at a disadvantage when that team can't run the ball. Eventually the passing game breaks down in a 12 game schedule and you need to run the ball.
Mike Leach had this problem at TT and its the reason he could never win the big12. Well, that and terrible defense and subpar overall talent.

How did Leach do against SEC teams?

Could have been Brees who would have given anything to be an Aggie like both his parents

Had an amazing conversation in Alabama last weekend at Tacky Jacks / Gulf Shores. RC Slocum and Chip Brees were there. RC admitted that A&M screwed up in passing on Drew (along with t.u.) and that he still might be coaching if Drew had come to A&M. Fun times.

Now do you think that had to do with scheme or talent?

Let me ask this, if Alabama decided to run a spread offense with a hurry up (not air raid, just spread), do you think they would be unsuccessful in the SEC?

The were the best team in the Big12 according to their record, how did the cotton bowl turn out against a mid level Ole Miss team?

Avoiding the question like a champ there big guy.

quote:

Alabama has more talent than most teams and would be successful running any scheme they want. Also, a good defense is irrelevant as it will help you win no matter what offense you run

Leach was the coordinator under Mumme at Kentucky. He maxed out at 7 wins with a Heisman candidate QB running the show.

You realize there are 10 other players on offense and 11 guys on defense right?

Talent trumps scheme every time.

Then why has Texas been so shitty the past couple of seasons since they get pick of the litter and sign more talent than you?

For the same reason UF fans on here keep saying that people shouldn't assume they are loaded on offense just due because rivals tells them so.
Its the same reason Arky was loaded on offense but most people think your recruiting sucked (which it did for the most part at least on defense).

Texas for one had some serious busts on the OL and at QB (Garret Gilbert ring a bell), no running game, and no WRs. They literally had some of the worst talent on offense of all of the BCS teams.
They will be better this year but they will still struggle because they have no QB and I still think their OL is soft.

So did aTm sign a complete new roster this season?

Texas has been and will continue to be better than you.
