The hubris of Saban - his downfall?

I have often heard it said that Persian rugmakers intentionally insert a flaw into each of their creations, as they believe that striving towards perfection is an affront to God, who alone is perfect. I have often felt that Saban has treated his teams the same way - they have always been as perfect as he could make them, with the glaring exception of the placekicking game. Surely such an obvious oversight by a coach otherwise known for his meticulous attention to detail has to be intentional, after all. But this season I think Saban's hubris finally got the better of him. I think the flawed kicking game gnawed at him and gnawed at him over the years until at last his inner perfectionism overcame his inner humility, and he not only fixed the kicking game - he perfected it. "Now witness the firepower of this fully armed and operational battle station," I imagine him cackling to himself as Reichard sent FG after FG through the uprights, with nary a miss to mar his spotless record.

But at what cost? If perfection is truly reserved for God alone, will He not now strike Saban down for his presumption? Were the seeds of Alabama's eventual downfall sown in the piling up of meaningless three-point kicks in games decided by four to five touchdowns? Is an imminent return to the days of the early 2000's the only fitting and just punishment for straying too close to the realms of the immortal? IS THIS THE END?

What a year for your players. Especially for yalls 2017 draft class.

Plenty of praise for the returning players as well.

And so to everyone remaining I say “Kudos”!

It's possible that perfection is allowed for a few that are truly deserving.
