The four worst game day coaches of the last 20 years (SEC)

1) Butch Jones - Butch is by far the worst coach that has ever walked an SEC side line. Whether it's running fade routes on the 1 yd line, not going for 2 when only up 12 points, Butch is the gold standard on how a coach should frick up a game. Butch is a great recruiter but a YMCA flag football coach has better decision making skills.
2) Ron Zook - The Zookster had a tough time replacing Steve Spurrier. He had a losing record against UF's rivals TN, and FSU. He blew a huge lead against Miami in 2003 and also lost to a bad Ole Miss team in 2002. Zook was known as an unbelievable recruiter but his coaching during games was atrocious.
3) Les Miles - Even though Miles is considered a successful coach over his 11.5 yr tenure, his decision making in crucial game situations was moronic. Miles was always able to recruit at a high level but his inability to listen to others cost him his job. Miles, like Phillip Fulmer was very loyal and kept assistant coaches way past their prime.
4) Ed Orgeron - The honery cajun needs no introduction on this list. Orgeron like all the other coaches on this list was a great recruiter at Ole Miss but never even made a bowl game in his three years there. Orgeron's undoing was losing a big 4th quarter lead to Mississippi State in 2007.

I'd have to assume there have been several worse game day coaches than one with a national championship

No way. Les Miles won some games with his in-game coaching. He schemed us multiple times and made big calls at the exact right time to win games.

I'm gonna have to throw Sly Croom into the mix.

The 4th down tight end reverse in the 4th quarter of the 2010 Alabama/LSU game comes to mind. That took brass balls to call that play in that situation.

Les is definitely not one of the four worst game day coaches in the last 20 years. He actually out-coached Saban in three consecutive regular season games from 2010-2012. There's no way a bad gameday coach out-coaches Saban multiple times much less three consecutive years.

His crazy fake field goal calls won LSU a few extra games.

Yea...list is awful. Jones is not number one. I know you Tenn fans delude reality, but you've sucked for 15 years. He is the reason you are even remotely back. He is your savior.
Hail Butch. The man who got Tenn back to Citrus bowl status!!!

Les did some "hell lets just try it" stuff that worked early on and didn't late, but he also made some incredible good risk calls too. Like the call mentioned above with the inside reverse to the TE against us in 2010 on 4th down. That was a brilliant call.

Miles did win several games with his gambling shenanigans. Probably shouldn't have put him on the list but I think the rest of this list is spot on.

No, Les Miles had some games with clock management issues, but some of the most memorable games and what made him great for a period of time were game changing calls he made

Zook once did an onside kick with only 9 players on the field. He didn't call a timeout because it would ruin the element of surprise.
