The difference between tickets sold/actual crowd and stadium capacity vs. actual seats

I thought that The Atlantic was never free, but for some reason this article is actually free. The stadium capacity that fans cling so tightly to is actually a generous estimate and like the Easter Bunny or the Tooth Ferry. Georgia, for example, has sold out 70-something straight football games and the attendance is always announced as 92,000-something, but the actual seating capacity is actually 88,000-something, because 4,500 of the announced attendance is a made-up number of "working attendance" (players, concession stand people, security, media, coaches, etc.)
Then there's the actual "tickets used." Against top teams for Georgia it's 82,000-84,000 and for shitty OOC games its in the 60s.
So, in other words, whenever LSU fans start talking about "over 100,000 rabid fans" they're probably actually talking 80,000 something for an average game (closer to 50,000 by the fourth quarter because LSU fans are the worst at leaving early. The exact same goes for Tennessee and how Tennessee fans get so giddy about 100,000. Tennessee at different points in the last 10 years has likely had 50,000 or 60,000 fans. Fairly interesting shite...

They bought a ticket. If they choose to buy a ticket but not use it, that's up to them. They're stupid but again, that's up to them. And you.

The Atlantic is not the Athletic. Though they are both just fish wrap.

The Athletic, good catch. But The Atlantic is actually a solid read if you're not into global media conspiracies and conspiracy theories in general.

Most schools have switched from selling their own tickets to having ticket companies sell them for them. Such as Ticketmaster, stubhub, or seatgeek. These companies buy up all, the loose tickets ant an discount and sell them at a premium. The school gets to declare a sell out even if a large percentage of tickets never sell and are still held by said ticket company.

UT usually leaves at the half. The Gators do too.

FSU is probably the worst offender. They got busted by the WSJ a few years ago when actual attendance was only 57% of announced attendance.

Most schools report paid tickets. At least it’s tickets that were actually bought by someone. But if Georgia really does this then that’s ridiculous.

Garth Brooks sold 102,000 tickets for Tiger Stadium and it was announced as a sell-out. If LSU doesn't inflate its stadium capacity, please explain what all of these people are doing standing on the field in front of the stage and how the math would work without all of the Garth Brooks fans on the field...

No one is saying that there were 250k people there.
It it is verifiable that Tiger stadium seats 102,000+. You can see all the people ok the field as well. It’s clearly more than 102,000 people.
