No, you don't. I'm always amazed at people who make blanket statements with such absolute conviction that they clearly have no idea what they're talking about.
The NBA doesn't give 1 shite about divisions. The division champ only gets a boost for seeding.
The NFL has wild card spots. As does the MLB.
The NHL has the top **3** teams in each division qualify for the playoffs, plus the two remaining teams with the best records.
I think he was trying to be obtuse because, technically, you have to win the conference championship series/game to advance to the finals in the NFL and NBA. But we all know conferences in college are what divisions are in those sports.

There's no "technically" about it.
The semi-finals in the NFL are called the conference championship games - the winners of which go on to play in the Super Bowl.
skyroper literally said this:

You don't have to win your conference to win any professional title
...when everyone knows the National Conference (NFC) champion plays against the American Conference (AFC) champion in the Super Bowl.
Then he went off on mental retardation and shite, and started talking about divisions and how stupid everyone else is.
frick that shite, if you say something as stupid as, "You don't have to win your conference to win any professional title", you deserve to be Korin-ed to death.

That's a better school than many of the SEC schools so i'm not going to talk.
Then again with an MBA from there and he still live in Ohio? I think he's lying.

and, like I said, you are fully aware that what we call conferences in college football are what are called divisions in the NFL. You are just trying to be argumentative and intentionally obtuse. Conferences in the NFL and NBA are not the same thing that conferences in college football are, but you already knew that.

Nope. I split time between Florida and Montana.

So you're saying it isn't about the best four teams.
I'm glad we agree on that at least.

We just finished 13-1 with a Rose Bowl championship. Another great season for Ohio State.

Wrong, we also have divisions in CFB.
The difference is that there are more than just two conferences in CFB.
quote:
Conferences in the NFL and NBA are not the same thing that conferences in college football are
Inasmuch as they are the same between the NFL and NBA, they are the same in CFB. Division champions compete for conference championships at all levels. CFB has more than two conferences, and doesn't use wildcards to determine conference champions - as neither did the NFL back in the day - those are really the only differences. Conferences are made up of divisions in CFB, NFL and NBA.
This is only "obtuse" to those who lack understanding.
It is important to me because I'm a proponent of a tournament of champions for the CFP, conference champions, just like they do at the pro level.

Wild Card Super Bowl champions
1980 Oakland Raiders–Super Bowl XV (played in 1981)
1997 Denver Broncos–Super Bowl XXXII (played in 1998)
2000 Baltimore Ravens–Super Bowl XXXV (played in 2001)
2005 Pittsburgh Steelers–Super Bowl XL (played in 2006)
2007 New York Giants–Super Bowl XLII (played in 2008)
2010 Green Bay Packers–Super Bowl XLV (played in 2011)
Other Wild Card Super Bowl participants
1975 Dallas Cowboys–Super Bowl X (played in 1976)
1985 New England Patriots–Super Bowl XX (played in 1986)
1992 Buffalo Bills–Super Bowl XXVII (played in 1993)
1999 Tennessee Titans–Super Bowl XXXIV (played in 2000)
Funny thing about your list above, ALL of those teams were conference champions.
It seems like you have a problem more with how conferences determine their champions.
Do you train hard to be this stupid, or does it come naturally?

Maybe don’t do the following in one season:
1. Be down 2 scores in the 4th against Penn State
2. Be in a one score 4th Quarter game against 6-6 TCU
3. Be in a 1 score 4th Quarter game against 6-6 Minnesota
4. Go to Overtime with 5-7 Maryland
5. Play 8-5 Northwestern in your conference championship
6. Almost lose at home to 4-8 Nebraska
7. Get beat by 6-6 Purdue by 30
Great post. And THIS is why the eye test is still an important criteria and I'm glad the selection committee uses it. We have watched Ohio State play like shite all year and eke out wins. They have the talent to certainly be in the top 4, but they played like it against Michigan and against Washington, sort of. They rest of the time, they loafed and screwed around with teams they should have beaten to death. It's real simple. Win your games, play to a standard, not up or down to your opponents, and don't lose by 30 to a middle of the pack team and then whine when it's held against you. That applies to Ohio State and Alabama and Georgia and Oklahoma and UCF all the same. Now quit your bitching about the system.
