Top SEC Running Back Teams / Backfields (2005–2025)

2. 2007 Arkansas — Darren McFadden-Led Backfield

McFadden rushed for 1,830 yards, one of the best totals of the modern SEC era.

For the time period, it should likely be presented as this if speaking of backfields...
*Darren McFadden 3rd all time in SEC career rushing yards
*Felix Jones 1st all time in yards per attempt (7.7)
*Felix Jones 2nd all time in single season yards per attempt (8.7)
*Darren McFadden rushed for an SEC Record 321 yards in 2007 game vs. South Carolina
*Darren McFadden is one of only three (3) SEC RB's to rush for 1k yards as a FR, SO, & JR (Walker & Collins)

Darren McFadden, Felix Jones, & Peyton Hillis 2005 - 2007 Arkansas backfield

You honestly believe this is a reason for people to vote FOR Tebow? It's not. It's the exact opposite, fyi.

Tebow was a great college QB. McFadden was a great college RB. Both probably deserved to win but only one can win the award. It happens. Tebow deserved it every bit McFadden did.

No, he wasn’t. He won it because he was a bible thumper praising god every other play. I’m not saying the preacher was a bad player, but when you put things into context, what McFadden did at Arkansas, given that it’s Arkansas was unbelievable.

He had 7 more rushing touchdowns than McFadden and threw for 32 touchdowns. He was the first player to get 20 rushing touchdowns in the SEC. He set the record for rushing touchdowns in the SEC in a single year. He was the first and only player at the time in the history of college football to run for 20+ touchdowns and throw for 20+ touchdowns.

You can make an argument for McFadden, his season was great, saying Tebow won it solely bc of his PR as a Godly man is objectively a retarded take.

ESPN and all that Tebow this and Tebow that. Tebow wasn't half the player McFadden was.

07 Heisman isn't the issue. Troy Smith winning the 06 Heisman is.

That the 2007 Arkansas team only finished 8-5 seems like such a waste for that backfield

And that was one of the reasons Houston Nutt was coaching at Ole Miss the next season.

Nutt actually had a few very talented teams that should have competed for SEC titles, but laid eggs instead. 2003, 2006, and 2007 easily come to mind.
