That catch was amazing. One of the best interceptions I’ve ever seen.

Not to be a Debbie downer, but that OK int goes down a couple of notches because knocking it down would have been better than intercepting it (it was 4th and 18). The catch was amazing, but the better play was knocking it down.

The most impressive play I saw yesterday was by the SEC officiating crew that disappeared a 3rd down from Penn State

I knew that was going to be it but he should just batted it down. Cost them 30 yards.

The OU CB pick was the best thing I've seen in long time. From the snag to a 360 body spin, it was incredible.

So good the announcer immediately had his own balls in his throat

Was it the AU/PSU game where the scrum pushed the pile ahead for a first down, only to have the refs come in a mark the spot about two yards back from where the play actually ended?

I mentioned to the Sooner to my right, that it was a great play but he should have batted it away.

Its a play that will be shown for a long time, but it made a lot more sense to bat it down given where it was

Great catch, but it was 4th down and if he knocks it down, better result

Dbs are taught to intercept the ball. Tipped or batted balls can get caught by someone else. You’re not going to sit back and think “if the ball comes my way I’m going to bat it away.” His DC stood up for him against HC Charmin.

Laugh/cry

They're not taught to intercept the ball every opportunity. Maybe on the JR high level.

Dbs have also attempted to intercept passes only to have them tipped and caught by WRs. Field awareness, what down is it...

I saw some other one handed grabs but that one near the end zone to seal OU’s victory has to top them all.

Didn’t seal the victory. In fact it put us in a serious bind considering that was fourth down. We had to go ultra conservative and punted it back to them on the 37 or so. They followed it up with a TD.

Not criticizing the guy for making the play. Just that it was unfortunate.

I’m just saying, intercepting it instead of knocking it down cost them over 20 yards of field position and put them inside of their own five. So, that has to take something away from the play.

I am not sure he could have done that. At best he bats it up in the air which is risky.

He could have intentionally let the ball go as he went to the ground but that is not something that you can foresee and you have to be cognizant of what is a catch and what would be a fumble. I think you need to know situational awareness before the play but you can’t be thinking that much during the play. Batting down a ball thrown right to you, yes, but not much more thinking than that.

I have always wondered how coaches treat those situations, especially ones where batting it down would be easy.

You are dealing with egos and transfer portals. You are also dealing with kids going out all and acting on instinct. There is a concept if you are thinking too much you slow down.

I wonder if they talk about it in film or if they just say, “good catch.”

Sorry kind of derailed the thread…

Best play I saw yesterday was me hitting "off" on the remote and sparing myself the last few seconds of the Kentucky shite show.
