I have a DVD copy that I bought in 2002 or 2003. It's pretty fricking horrid.

Busey got the voice right...apart from that..it was bad. The script was one of the worst ever. It was essentially a bunch of scenes from his life strung together....one of the worst jobs telling a story ever in a movie.

I remember Paul Finebaum talking about going to the premiere for it. It was in a tiny theater in East Birmingham right next to a Red Lobster. He said that was a microchasm of how bad it was that they would have the premiere in a theater next to a Red Lobster.

Is it a bootleg?

Not that I'm aware. It has a legit cover, starting menu, all that jazz. I haven't watched it in almost a decade. I remember buying it from one of the street vendors in Tuscaloosa on gameday.

Who saw that schlock Junction Boys, an ESPN production I believe, and Tom Berenger as Bear? Just horrible.

Berenger looked the part alright but the acting in the movie was awful

Well damn. I gave up looking a few years ago, but I guess I wasn't the only one demanding it

Meh. It's Jon Voight. He essentially plays the same character in every movie and he's never been famous for his range. In this case, I think it was mainly about casting someone that many people recognize and it's a somewhat big name to put on a budget film.

Jon Voight did not play bryant in Forrest Gump. The actor's name is Sonny Shroyer

Tommy Lee Jones or Robert Duvall could handle the role.

They could definitely get the accent, mannerisms, etc., down but they don't have near the physical presence. Bear was bigger than most of his players at the time. Unless my memory is shitty (not unlikely), neither Duvall or Jones are 6'3" 230+

Forrest Gump was a true story?

The original work could have been based on real story with some changes. Not sure what the hell actually made it to the screen as it was not the book at all.

I remember reading about the idiot-savant chess champion, All-American, Swamp Thing, back-up computer for a space shuttle when I was a wee lad!

The original, outside of football, wasn't very good himself
