I remember 30+ years ago when I lived in south LA (Hammond area)we had hurricanes and flooding and everyone with a 4x4 with a lift kit and/or a boat went out into the communities and started getting stranded people out of homes. It's been a tradition as long as I remember, but the fact that it's become a truly organized effort now is really cool and a testament to the character of those guys.
