So A&M played against a great team that was missing their most important coaches, and didn't you win by a FG in double-overtime? I'm not saying the conference title shouldn't count or anything like that. Of course it should and does. However, A&M did come into that game under a very fortunate set of circumstances
Damn!! the ignorance on this board is astounding!
NO- QUITE THE OPPOSITE. A"M was not "fortunate" in the least. It came into the '98 B12 championship after LOSING its last game at Texas on a long drive
last second FG. We had the CCG sowed up.
Secndly. We LOST OUR STARTING QB against Texas and had to play the ch-ship game with iur little used backup
Third, KState had ALL their coaches amd there was little to no smoke anout them leaving- per Kansas State's own report.
In retrospect, if A&M had not lost that last game to Texas, it would have played for the National Championship with the way all the ither scirea brike on that crazy day the following week.

If construction crews and land developers made Phoenix, a hostile desert landscape, livable, then they could technically do it to West Texas. The bigger question is… would the juice be worth the squeeze? I was stationed out in Clovis, NM in the mid to late 1990’s and Lubbock or Amarillo were the closest “big” cities. Lubbock was better because of the college girls and night clubs.
But it don’t compare to my visits to Miami, Chicago, Nashville, Ft. Myers, Columbus (Ohio), or Charlotte. Dallas and OKC were pretty cool to hang out in. But west Texas was just blah for what felt like hundreds of miles. Maybe it’s changed a lot since then. I don’t know. The tech posters in here have a lot more info than I woul
Lubbock is the best town in West Texas but that's not much of a complement. It's dry and flat and a long way from anything else that isn't dry and flat. At least Phoenix has mountains and cool scenery nearby and it isn't windy so it has the most outdoor pools of anywhere in the US, if you have a pool in West Texas it basically has to be inside. I will grant you that Tech has always been famous for dumb hot girls that are easy because there isn't much else to do but get drunk and party at Tech and the school isn't hard.

Is that Landman’s daughter in the middle?

What do you about the general smell of manure that permeates the town?

it's usually only when wind blows certain way. and only on the outskirts.

When I visited, it smelled in the downtown area, but it was windy

Something tells me you haven’t been to Amarillo
Lubbock = Abilene
Amarillo = Kerrville

It appears you're right about the coaches. Most of the KSU fans were bitter because those coaches were "distracted" and allegedly working for OU when they should have been preparing for the game...which of course sounds like fan excuses as well. But I couldn't find anything about them not being there.
I wasn't just making it up though. That's what I've been told happened for years (by KSU fans...one in particular has been especially bitchy about OU stealing all the coaches and ruining their NC year), and the way Bob talked about it too, I just assumed it was all true. Evidently not. Stoops wasn't nearly as heartless as they made him out to be, which I'm glad to learn.
But I also wasn't trying to asterisk away your win. I truly have (or had) no preference who won that game. I have no affection or dislike for either school. I just thought it was an interesting story...a bullshite story, it seems, but I fell for it.
