I am in the area and have a free weekend. I was thinking of going to campus to check out the game day atmosphere. Sucks it's an 11 am game, but is it worth checking out as a college football fan?

This weekend? You'll have plenty of room to set up all the tailgating you want.

If you're talking about next weekend, sure it's worth it, but won't be your traditional tailgating scene. More like a carnival atmosphere with live music, zip lines, carnival type games and such. (Great for kids) There are some old school tailgates, but not the same number you'll see at some schools.

Scholz beer garden is not far away and my preferred pre-watering place if not going to a specific tailgate.

Not trolling. Are you saying this with respect to the Florida weekend only (if so, why?), or in general for Texas home games?

If the latter, what causes Texas to be different than your idea of the norm?

Heard it is lit, but must display pronoun bracelets or a name tag with at least 3 preferred pronouns.

Game day is a big shebang at Texas. There is tailgating, but there’s a ton of stuff. 11am games are not really the best for pregame stuff tho.

KVUE TV 3 tips for Longhorn home games.

BTW, I think it is still true that the west side of the stadium is the tallest stadium in the U.S., if not the world. Stadium is built on a hill. Entering stadium on west side street level is about 25 feet or so below the field level. In addition, the west side has the massive 2nd level. Walk over to west side and look up, it's up there. DKR/Texas Memorial stadium also has the most seats between end lines than any other stadium. Seating over 100k with large majority of seats, NOT in the end zones.

No smack here. Tailgating in Austin isn’t great. Like someone mentioned, there are parking garage tailgates, and people hanging out at bars near the stadium, but no real campus scene.

People pay ahead of time to have slots reserved and set up for them. It’s next to impossible to just arrive and impromptu tailgate (parking is an entirely different subject).

I was disappointed in the Texas gameday atmosphere and tailgating. We had a blast at the restaurants, bars and the sights of Austin.

The tailgating was lacking though. Some of the tailgates we walked by were very inclusive. One lady told us to move on and we were not invited. We told her we where just looking at the TV for a score update. The carnival area is pretty cool if you have kids

I was surprised that the campus was only 40 acres. It is a beautiful campus

pretty awesome by the LBJ presidential library. Walk by the law school as well, they have a live band, bbq, bar set up.

lol, the original campus has 40 acres reserved for the campus, it's quite a bit larger these days.

Thats the norm these days, and the consequence of having a large University literally in the middle of what is quickly becoming a large city.

Before Austin exploded in size (and the campus itself) there was still open grass for tailgating, but that's all been taken up by various buildings/parking garages etc. That's why Bevo Blvd was created which is great for kids and visitors who don't want to do their own tailgate or don't feel comfortable crashing one of the home team.

Texas' campus has never had the green space that a lot of small town campuses have because of its downtown location.

But are right...

It has been amazing to watch it get denser and denser as the years go by.

That’s cool,

The more I travel to other campuses, the more I realize how lucky we are to have so much green space to tailgate at LSU

Right before the turn of the century everybody began to think Austin was cool and that's the place to be. Ruined everything. Businesses moved in. Concrete quadrupled. All the traditional Ma and Pa's were shut down.

Frankly I wish now they'd just move the sumbitch to Tyler or something. Heh, that would take away the last excuse that Aggie has for hating UT.
