Not true either.
Peanuts originated in South America. The Spanish took it back to the Old world and it was used in African Colonies to feed live stock.
So with a South American root and then a Spanish influence combined with Africa, peanuts would be in your scenario slightly less "American" than Tortillas. Especially Given the Spanish/North American influence of Tortillas
