I thought the horns down was done mainly only by OU.

Ags would whoop or gig’em.
Hogs would do the souiee-pig thing.
Tech, TCU, etc, we would do their own hand signal. Most SWC schools had one.

So again it was only. Until, the whole penalty thing for doing it came about in the OU-Texas game. That there seemed to make grow on all the other schools doing bc the perception was it bothered Texas. And here we are.

My family just does the Aggie gestures. We leave the horns down for OU.

I wish the top 1-3 schools from every conference could play a SEC schedule just one year.

People have been doing the horns down sign almost as long as Texas fans have been doing it up. Why did it become a big deal in recent history?

A Texas player scored a touchdown against Tech in Lubbock. He did the Texas Tech 'Guns Up' hand sign, then pointed his hands guns down and 'holstered' the pretend guns. He was flagged for a penalty.

Texas made a stink about this with the refs and the conference. Why can everyone do the Horns Down but we can't do the same with another team's hand sign?!? That is when the conference started penalizing Horns Down.

Texas has been the king of a white collar prison and in 2025 they are being transferred to Alcotraz. Good luck.

Actually it was Vince young being arrested for assault because he got his feelings hurt and he assaulted someone in a strip club because they did the horns down to him or at least that’s what he claimed. After that everyone started mocking how the players and fans were so sensitive to it. And it snowballed from there.

I actually do have a problem with horns down because it gives undue attention to an institution that’s already an attention whore.

Yep. The attention is better than no attention.

As to the rude awakening in the title of the thread, Texas football is in the doldrums, but it won't last. Texas won't really miss a beat in any other sports.

What’s funny is that it has never once been flagged in competition

After scoring West Virginia's first touchdown in the first quarter of a 42-41 victory over Texas, Sills flashed a “horns down” hand signal, a spoof on the Longhorns' famous “horns up” gesture. Sills didn't get away with it, landing a 15-yard penalty — the first of two against WVU for making the gesture.

That worked out as well as the "We're Back" comment.

The penalty on the WR for doing "guns down" is what sparked it a few years ago as a penalty. Otherwise many fans just find it lame ("be for your school vs against someone else").

Our admin asked the league why Guns Down is taunting if Horns Down is not. Aggy's spin took care of the rest.

We weren't even in your conference, moron. Your admin screwed the school by insisting that it should be tantamount to taunting and a 15 yard penalty. The NATIONAL MEDIA called you out on it, and now it is insanely popular across CFB

You are the most despised fans in all of college sports if Omaha was any indication. Everybody loves to rag on you losers.
