New coach. New quarterback. New offensive schemes. Means Texas A&M's offense will be in the middle of the pack in the SEC. Throw in a bad defense and Texas A&M will have a long year.
So you're saying our offense will still be ahead of LSU's?

Anybody addressing those defensive issues?

LSU played against SEC defenses all last year.
A&M played against cup cake Big 12 defenses. Little bit of a difference and very easy to rack up a lot of yards.
Two years ago when LSU beat Texas A&M like a drum LSU put up 41 points against Texas A&M's defense. LSU was only able to score that amount against 1 SEC school that season which was Ole Miss.

Against the SEC in 2011, A&M went for 528 in the air, and one of those was against LSU(247 yards)
In those two games, Swope had 137 yards.
Extrapolating that over an 8 game schedule, (assuming that Arkansas is at the bottom of the barrel, and LSU the top, defensively) you would see Swope amass 548 yards in SEC play. With 4 games to get 452 yards against 2 FCS teams, SMU(who he went for 109 against) and La Tech, it seems very reasonable that he ends up right around a 1000.
Then again, Houston completed 101 more pass than A&M's offense did last year, and Swope averaged 13 yards per catch. Conservatively assuming he only gets 25% of those, and A&M is so far behind in a lot of games that they are passing every down in the 3rd and 4th quarter, that's easily an extra 300 yards a season.
My guess? 1412 yards. I would go higher, but A&M needs 7 wins to get to a bowl game, and A&M needs to be losing a lot to pad Swope's stats, so I'm stick with 1412.
Then again, my numbers change if we assume that Mizzou is for all intents and purposes actually a Big 12 team this year, and A&M only has 7 true SEC games. But I don't want to look at anymore numbers.
Bottom line? A&M has an offensive line better than Bama's, a receiving corps better than Tennessee's, running backs better than South Carolina, can sack the QB more often than LSU, and a signal caller better than whatever Arkansas has.
Be scared.

Would be the 2nd most receiving yards in the SEC in the past 8 seasons to 2010 Alshon... Not going to happen.

Will the 2012 A&M offense be the best SEC offense this year, best of the last ten years, or best SEC offense of all time.
The combination of Sumlin, Ryan Swope, their 5* runningbacks, Offensive Line, and all world quarterback, have me terrified.
The SEC is in for a rude awakening. Big 12 Style.

Honest question here...
What is the perception of the Big 12 offense/defense rankings outside the Big 12? Kind of a "chicken or the egg" question, but are Big 12 defenses bad because they spend most of their time defending stellar Big 12 offenses, or are Big 12 offenses over inflated because they play against terrible Big 12 defenses?
For example, in 2011, the Big 12 had 6 teams in the top 15 in total offense (Arkansas and Alabama are just outside the Top 25).
Comparatively, the SEC had five of the top 10 teams in terms of total defense (the Big 12 makes it's first appearance at 14 with Texas and then Mizzou, Oklahoma, and A&M all show up in the 60s).
Shockingly, in terms of total defense, A&M was the 4th best team in the Big 12 in 2011 despite having the 6th most plays called against them in college football. Another interesting comparison here... A&M defended 511 passes in 2011. Alabama defended 720 total plays (334 passes). When you look at it like that, you can imagine why A&M's pass defense pales in comparison to the SEC passing defenses if for no other reason than they saw like 40% more passes (guesstimation).
Lies, damn lies, and statistics aside, I would not be surprised to see A&M's defensive rating go up simply by virtue of playing in the SEC where it's not a schedule of 5 teams all throwing up 1000+ plays a season.

I fully expect to see Swope get his 1,000 yards receiving
And I fully expect you to be wrong.
Now, Swope is a good player but with a new QB and , more importantly, facing much much better defenses - no way in hell he has over 1000 yards this year. I could be wrong and if I am I will eat it but I just dont see it happening.

You do realize that the SEC only had 2 1,000 yard receivers last year don't you? Swope will have to absolutely rape your OOC schedule(which is very possible) to gain that many yards here.
Da'Rick Rogers had 1040 receiving yards. Of those, HALF(517) were gained in the nonconference.
Jarius Wright had 1117 receiving yards. Of those, 452 were gained in 3 noncon games(sat out the Troy game).
Take away Ryan Swope and thats the same number as the Big 12 had last year.
That said, I would not bet on any receiver to hit 1000 yards without knowing who is throwing him the ball and how good he is.

That depends whether you want to say something negative or positive.

If Swope gets a 1,000 yards this season it won't be good for A&M.
A&M needs to take advantage of their offensive line and RB's. Hand offs to Christine Michael and screens to Trey Williams.
My useless, out of my arse guess for Swope is 850 yards, unless he completely beast modes the OOC

awesome troll idea - create a straw man argument that A&M claims to have an all world QB/Offense as if we are beating our chests, and then tear it down
but seriously - reports out of practice seem to indicate a lot of air attack similar to UH. If that's the case, then Showers will put up pretty good numbers just based on volume. Personally, I would like to take advantage of the OL and RBs and run the ball as much as last year, but nobody really knows...

They were just installing the system and the concepts in the spring while also trying to evaluate which QB will best command it.
Come fall we'll be running the ball. Kliff Kingsbury is an extremely smart guy that's been around some of the greatest offensive minds/coaches of our time (Leach, Sumlin, Holgerson, Tom Brady, Weiss, Mangini, Belichik & Mike Shanahan off the top of my head)
