There has to be a gay angle to this. I'm guessing either the friend was gay and had a crush on Manti and would rub one out to romantic shite between him and Manti before he went to bed, or Manti is gay with this dude/someone else, and got caught up in a lie to his family about it, and the friend created a beard.
There is too much Catholic and Mormon shite for there not to be something gay.
