Tennessee fans: why was Guarantano the starter over Chryst?

Chryst is a much better passer and Guarantano never showed any special running talent to suggest he should be the starter.

We all know Chryst is going to turn around and throw at least 2 picks against South Carolina next week.

Both of them are nothing special and our play calling is atrocious so it’s not as if it matters who plays.
May as well try with the sophomore instead of the grad transfer and see if you can develop him into a good player these next few years.
Chryst definitely process the game much faster which you have to do with such a bad oline, so he’s probably our best shot to go bowling despite having a weak arm

Because he has looked absolutely terrible until yesterday.
Also, our offense ALWAYS looks better when we air it out and we didn't start doing that until Guarantano got hurt yesterday.

Eh rewatch the game. Chryst played well throwing on time, but at that point Alabama was playing 2 safeties back. They weren't facing the same pressure

Also, asking why the guy who was named national offensive player of the week after his performance against Auburn was playing over Keller Chryst is just silly. KC is a solid QB and a great backup but JG (when healthy) is the superior QB. He certainly has a better arm than KC.
