Not only that 2009 Bama had more ALL Americans than any team , ever. From 1st team to 3 rd team. Most ACCOMPLISHED( awards and accolades) TEAM OF ALL TIME.

Can't leave off 2012 Alabama, and include Auburn 2004, LSU 2006, and UGA 2005. IMO.

Why? Alabama was not above everyone else; there were at least 4 SEC Teams that the end of the season that could give Alabama fun for their money. 2012 Alabama wasn't a great. The defense sucked in their toughest games, and the offense didn't know what it wanted to do. When people other than Alabama fans look back at 2012, they will only remember the game that made JFF a celebrity. The Texas A&M game was bad — though you worked your way back into it. You had your chances in the LSU and Georgia games to walk away with it and failed both times. Fortunately, our team won.

I'd leave the record out. Going undefeated or winning a national championship shouldn't be a requirement for this list.

My question is directed just to you.
2009 vs 2012 Alabama. Who've you got?

The Question needed to be the Top 15 teams.

That would have allowed for the obvious first ten PLUS the next 5 which is where the interesting dialogue would occur

I did not know this. Thanks.

[quote]From what standpoint? The only way I see that being the case is if we're looking at talent levels. Saban's 2010 team lost 3 games. I'm assuming you weren't including his 2007 team - which was the only Alabama team in the last 43 years to not have a single player drafted. [/

Because in 2012 Bama played two teams worth a damn and went 1-1.
2008, 2009, 2010 all played a harder schedule than 2012 Bama.
Had Bama played a harder schedule they may have lost another game. LSU was the 85th ranked passing team in all of CFB and we threw at will.
Not that 2012 Bama sucked. I just don't think they were as good as the other Bama teams. It's totally opinion but I think 2006 LSU , UF , Auburn could beat 2012 Bama.

Finished ranked #1 in the country. Gave up 400+ yards only twice. Offense averaged more PPG than any Bama team since the early 1970s. Never held to under 21 points. How often does that happen in the SEC?

Not sure if I agree with you on that one. 1995 was not a part of the greatest decade of dominance by any conference ever. If anything, Alabama's NC that year will be known as the first time for a team not even able to win their own division, but still go win a NC against a team that beat them at home.

Any list of best teams since 2000 must carry both LSU and Bama 2011. I can't remember any time when two teams were so dominant compared to the rest of the nation, especially come from the same conference and division.

This is a serious, non-rhetorical question, btw. Does anyone know when the last time a team finished #1 in the country in total defense AND scored at least 21 points in every game?

This is the way I lean. Especially in CFB. Your team basically has very little control over playing in the national title game. You say 2004 auburn is worse than 2007 LSU just because LSU lucked into the BCSCG.

Tough question.

I'll go with 2009.

ETA: I originally posted I'd take 2012. But 2009 Bama played 10 teams who went to bowl games, and only had a couple of close games. Undeniable talent and a will to win that couldn't be broken.

LSU's 2011 team will forever be remembered as the team that Bama beat for the 2011 National Championship - and that's about it.

Listen dude, you're wrong. You can bet your arse that Bama will be remembered for not even winning their division and getting a mulligan. Not only that, but it directly led to this "playoff" happening so quickly right after. Continue burying your head. I'm still hearing "2 loss BcS champion" on this thread. People remember. Look into history, there are notes about things like a team not winning their conference. It doesn't happen often. One other time.

UGA with 2 entries on that list and 0 championships? Auburn that high up with both teams?

How often does this get talked about? Rarely - except on here - and by LSU fans on here.

Had the "mulligan" game been even remotely close - within 10 points even - or if Bama hadn't won back to back championships, with 2011 being the first in the series, and the 2nd in the series of 3 out of 4 - then I think you'd be absolutely right.

However, because the game was a blowout, and because 2011 is now just another year in the middle of a Bama power run, that's not the way it's gonna work.

People remember how badly Bama beat LSU on 1/9. That's the image the rest of the country sees in their head when thinking about 2011.

It really just comes down to a difference of opinions. LSU fans want to be remembered for arguably one of the best regular seasons in cfb history despite losing in the NC, and Bama fans want everyone to forget that they were controversially picked to play in the NC game when they could not even win their division, with their loss being at home to the team they beat in the NC.

Here is an ESPN article from the day following the BCSCG between LSU and Bama:

LINK

quote:

Anybody who thinks the best team in the country isn't located in Tuscaloosa, Ala., needs to have their football membership cards revoked. There can be no argument, no debate, no splitting of hairs. Bama is No. 1.

It wasn't just that Bama won, it was how it won. The Crimson Tide humiliated the Tigers in ways no one thought possible.

quote:

Saban's defense neutered LSU

quote:

It wasn't the Game of the Century. It wasn't the Rematch of the Century. Instead, it was a woodshed blueprint. A rout. A score Bama will remember forever and one LSU would like to forget.

Have you ever really looked at how close these two teams were?

Not sure what those 7 games has to do with their entire schedule? That's 1 good win against Arky. Florida wasn't even ranked at the end of the season. Bama lost to the other good team there, LSU. Wo else did Bama play? Penn St. Ok, sure. 3 good teams with 2 wins. Look at LSU's schedule.

No doubt Bama and LSU smoked those SEC teams though. They were similar for sure. That's why the regular season match was so important and shouldn't allow for a mulligan. 1 team has to play an additional game while 1 sits at home. Just another road win against a top ranked team for LSU.

Bama was awesome, but they lost at home. If this wasn't your team, no doubt you'd be saying the same thing. Guaranteed not one Bama fan was white knighting for Michigan in 2006.
