Give Saban a month to prepare a pissed off team and it usually plays out in his favor.

Yeah, I don't think Clemson would be huge favorites anyway but I can see where the extra motivational factors you mention (along with Clemson winning last year) have some people thinking Bama will win a close game.

Bama getting some defenders back healthy and a month of practice for the young players they had to plug in should mean the defense is stronger than the depleted unit of the last month of the season.

I would probably pick Clemson myself but it's pretty much a toss up.

Gambling lines are not always based on who the better team it, instead by who Vegas feels that gamblers will put money on.

This might be how they set the opening line on some games, but after the line is posted Las Vegas just gets out of the way and lets the bettors decide where the line goes.

They had us near even with Auburn in the SECCG, and I couldn't understand that......so....I get your point there!

Most times it works because Bama delivers. Not so sure this time against Clemson.

Should be a good game.

Alabama is 11-3 in the postseason under Saban in games that meant something (5-1 in the SEC Championship, 3-0 in the BCS Championship, 3-2 in the CFP). They usually come ready to play.

Nick Saban. The bigger the game the more coaching matters.

For all you Vegas experts ...

Casinos and their teams of MIT mathematicians set lines based on algorithms as complex as anything NASA uses to re-enter spacecraft into the planets atmosphere, it does not and has not had to do with 'balancing' in decades. Local bookies might still need to do that, casinos don't.

Vegas casinos lay blocks off to each other at no cost to achieve balance, it's not until that collective balance is upset (no one able to give or take blocks) that the line is adjusted to entice the bets on whichever side they need money.

Initial lines are purely based on the expected outcome of the game based on the said math, then tweaked .5 to prevent pushes. That's how it works, anything contrary is simply not fact.

They've played only miami, which MIGHT, MIGHT be a pretty good team. That's all. It's no more impressive than who Bama has played. When u say the team's are even then u have the Saban factor, which provides the edge.

Is it a bit odd, TBH.

Clemson is 8-4-1 ATS this season winning its last 4 in a row, whereas Alabama is 5-7 ATS.

If I were to guess, it is a reluctance to make Bama the underdog. Bama has crushed it the last couple of times they were underdogs (2009 Florida / 2015 UGA)

Bama is better. How many weeks were Clemsonettes number 1? Syracuse happened. ACC sucks at football.
