That's just the first one I found. Sorry, I didn't feel the need to go back 3 years and do a complete works cited of every time it happened

Starts a thread about A&M posters being critical of barnes, every single A&M poster ITT is complimentary of him

Links a thread where one A&M poster is critical of barnes, an A&M poster links a thread were multiple VOLS posters are critical of him

Seems about right

This. I haven’t seen what you’re talking about. I actually liked him and Mack as people when both were at Texas even though I hated who they coached. I would love to have Barnes at A&M over what we have

Kind of funny how he’s now the complete opposite to your description of him.

His description was pretty spot on for what he did at Texas though. I’m not sure what changed in regards to his recruiting, and I agree w/you he looks like he’s developing his talent well at UT. Maybe he changed the type of assistants he has, I dunno. If you run down the recruits he landed at Texas though it’s a pretty unreal list from all over the US

Only thing I ever had a problem with where Barnes was concerned. "He's removed his name from consideration". It's become kind of a meme with those who don't like the guy. It's definitely funny, and guaranteed every time a job in athletics comes up

But he's a good coach. I bet the sips wish they had him back

Didn’t they get bounced in the first round with Tristan Thompson Avery Bradley and Cory Joseph or was Bradley gone

That was when the heat really started to turn up on him, he started landing one and done types around 08-09 and couldn’t get to the second weekend, regardless Barnes is a solid coach

That’s probably why he changed his approach. Texas made deep runs with solid four year college players like Gary Johnson, AJ Abrams, etc and he developed those guys well

You can build out a very very good NBA rotation with the guys they put into the NBA from like 05-10

KD
Aldridge
PJ Tucker
Augustin
Thompson
Cory Joseph
Avery Bradley
And I feel like I’m missing some

Billy Clyde and Turge’s teams still fared pretty damn well against them. Barnes feasted on Melvin Watkins

Melvin Watkins went 1-13 against Barnes.

Billy Gillispie went 3-4

Mark Turgeon went 3-5

Billy Kennedy is currently 1-5

The whole "took his name out of consideration" meme came about when the Kentucky job opened after the 2007 season.

Rick Barnes put out a press release stating that he had taken his name out of consideration.

Kentucky, confused with that, said he was never among their list of candidates and eventually hired Gillispie.

Love to see Rick do well, but history sez different.

He never seemed to have a plan on offense and certainly underachieved in crunch time. The final four squad that lost to Melo/'Cuse had TJ Ford at the point, TJ was like VY when it came to coach on the court/field and overcoming the coaches lack of balls.

Never got the impression A&M bagged on Barnes. A&M hoops was not good during the Barnes era at Texas, not sure they cared.
