Smoked conecuh sammiches are the best.

Anything we can throw on the grill and wrap in a tortilla.
(Usually accompanied by bacon and jalapeños)
Our crew drives to College Station from all over Texas, so folks bring meat/sausage from their neck of the woods and toss it on the fire when they arrive.
We always have cream cheese stuffed/bacon-wrapped japs and stuffed mushrooms as on-hand staples.

I don't really do the "delicacies" thing. Two crowd pleasers though are brats cooked in beer and seared with butter. Also, jalapeno poppers. Try making them with crab, cream and Colby jack cheese, minced green onion and red pepper. Pretty good, and people will clean them out pretty damn quick.

I'll add to this... shrimp and grits or some breakfast casserole and a bloody mary bar... we tend to have lots of 11:00 games.

Thanks for coming to help out. Gutting out soggy/moldy houses in Aug/Sept in South Louisiana was not a fun time. There were tons of good people like you that came down and helped out. It was really a good thing to see, especially after all the riots and shootings last summer. It really put things back into perspective, and reminded us that it doesn't matter what race you are, we're all affected the same, and we all need to help our neighbors when they need it. It was like God washed away the hate and put us back in our places, to remind us that we are not the ones in control.

It was definitely eye opening. I've done storm cleanup before when the April 27 tornadoes hit up here, but that was just some people from work riding to the other side of town and cleaning up storm debris.

I left Bham around 7 on a Thursday night, weekend of the Auburn/LSU game, and got to Baton Rouge around 1:30 AM. We were up and ready to go by 8 the next morning. Stayed at a local church, and the ground central for the group we volunteered with was at another church. Grace Pres. Good people there.

That same weekend there was also a group from A&M coming down to help. Everything was organized and well planned out.
