This is old information, but it's still somewhat interesting, even if it's not necessarily surprising. Their methodology isn't exactly bulletproof, but it seems like a fair barometer for their argument.

Yeah its a bad way to figure out what fanbases have alums and not because Facebook is not a good barometer. Poll is a few years old but probably still the same

23% of Texans are A&M fans

20% Texas fans

LINK /

Texas has a population of 29 million. A&M has 500,000 living alumni.

6.67 million Texas are A&M fans. So even if you assumed that every A&M alum lived in Texas their percentage of fans who went to the school is 7.5%

There are definitely more auburn alums at games than bama. We don’t have 3 tooth wonders in the stands.

Auburn has like 200,000 living alumni

The largest "non-alumni" fanbases appear to belong to the traditional regional "powers", so to speak, except for Northwestern, which seems extremely out of place in this group

Northwestern is definitely an interesting name on the list.

There is probably a residual effect from the 1995 Rose Bowl season on a generation of locals, who otherwise stick to pro sports. They also have been a consistent bowl team since then, while embracing and promoting the "Chicago's Big Ten Team" slogan.

In the same timeframe, Illinois has done very little to gain attention from non-alums in their state, hence their inclusion on the flip side of that list.

Longhorns went whining to the Big 12 to get the horns down sign called as a penalty. Wonder if the SEC is going let the little bitches get away with it.
