Things that really surprised me:

TAMU @ USCe

USCe could not control the ball. At all. They couldn't establish ANY kind of running game, and Dylan Thompson couldn't keep drives alive by himself. If it wasn't for 3 defensive PI penalties in the first half, it would have been even worse than it was. Somehow, the TAMU defense, which is supposed to be terrible, and at times did look it, especially in the secondary, was able to win the LOS against what is supposed to be the best, or one of the best, OL's in the SEC. Huge shock to me, and a big reason why USCe lost.

I wasn't surprised that TAMU could score. I think most realistic fans knew the offense would be pretty good, especially if they got good QB play, which they did. What shocked me is how TOTALLY UNPREPARED the USCe defense was to defend a HUNH offense. They weren't aggressive man to man on the edges, they couldn't cover or tackle in space, and they couldn't control the LOS at all. No chance. Their very good LB's looked like they were standing in mud all night, moving in slow motion. It was truly shocking. I didn't think they would drop off that much from last year. I think TAMU fans deserve to be sky high, but I doubt many other defenses will be as unprepared the rest of the year as USCe was. That was inexcusable.

BSU vs. OM

The complete lack of running game, and overall poor OL play. Ole Miss could not run the ball, and struggled to protect Bo Wallace. And Boise state just straight blew them up at the LOS all night long. They also had 10 pre snap OL penalties the last count I saw. I actually though, before Bo Wallace took his head out of his arse, that Ole Miss was going to find a way to lose that game. Ole Miss is going to have to live and die in the passing game this year, which should make them very exciting to watch, because they have some very good WRs, and when Bo Wallace is on, he is actually a good QB. It's just that when he's off and pressured, he is terrible. They are going to win some they shouldn't and lose some head scratchers this year, and that in itself isn't the surprise really, but the fact that they'll do it with very little support on the ground and piss poor OL play does. All year OM fans have said if they have injuries on the OL they are screwed. I believe them now.

Yeah, TAMU completely controlled the game, and USCe didn't do anything to prevent it.

You have to be physical against the HUNH. They weren't. I mean, they didn't even try to cheat.

Muschamp at Florida at least teaches his DB's to hold if they get beat. USCe couldn't even do THAT, they were so far away from the WRs in coverage.

Vanderbilt only had 54 rushing yards and 7 turnovers. They didn't score any offensive points.

And I thought Muschamp's teams couldn't play offense.

I knew Vandy would be bad but that's pretty damn awful.

I was surprised at two things with USCe. How woefully unprepared they were and their lack of a solid, wrap-up tackle. For A&M I think Hill was better than advertised but he'll face some much better defenses in the West so it remains to be seen.

I still remain surprised at Ole Miss's playcalling. They have a good amount of talent on that offense and it's like Freeze forgets that guys like Treadwell are out there. I truly don't get it.

This is great analysis! I almost expected OM and Vandy to play sloppy but did not see the USCe defense being that bad. You have to be excited if you are aTm. Props to Hill, we will see how well he does when good defenses prepare for him.

Which is like 2.7 plays per minute of possesion. That's NCAA type shite.

Upvote for the time you put into writing this.

The scary thing is that ATM has 10+ receivers with a reception. 10!

USC was way over-rated! Neither of those teams had a defense... period.

Not ALL night but yeah they got penetration more than a few times. Just sloppy o-line play that will get better.

Agree with this assessment.
