I didn't see the replay. Was he thinking he caught the pitcher not covering home? If not, it just doesn't make any sense to go there.

idk, the pitcher was right behind the catcher. I didn't see the replay though to see if the pitcher tracked back once the catcher made the call he got the ball. Obviously, he did because he was at home plate way before Mendoza got there.

yeah they do some different things trying to get hit by pitches, or at least make the pitcher think they are, which makes the pitcher stay away from inside pitches.. they are a well coached team and a scrappy bunch..
