What is scary is this thread is full of like-minded people who truly believe that.

I like to believe that given the time, Strong can do it the right way. I hope not too though. frick Texas and their fans.

They will probably talk to every Championship coach with recent success. So that knocks out about most of your coaches first.
Also, I could see them going for a young coach like Freeze, Utah's head coach, or Art Briles.

By the same token, the 'horns have won 25 Conference championships to only 11 for LSU. They have also won 4 National Championships, versus three for LSU. Does this mean that Austin is a preferable job to Baton Rouge?

Texas is such a unique job because it is the only sports game in town for the largest city in America with no pro team. Texas football is the "pro team" for 1.8 million citizens of a major metro area.
The fans, alumni and boosters expectations are so different than at other schools. They expect a personable guy who panders to fans and media and puts on a show. Open practices, player press conferences every day, local news stories, etf. The big donors are more involved in the shots there than anywhere else.
Strong is just a terrible fit. He isnt well spoken, not personable, hates the media, doesnt open practice much, refuses most interviews and hates alumni functions. He is a coach, not a CEO. Mack Brown was perfect for that job.

What on his resume makes you think this?
His record is sub .500 without Teddy Bridgewater (who was a man playing with kindergartners in that conference).
I like what Charlie Strong stands for as a coach, and seems like a stand up guy... However his press conferences, staff decisions, clock management, substitution patterns, recruiting, and win-loss record all point to him being in over his head.
I don't intend to derail the thread further, but as an aggy, I hope he is in Austin as long as possible. (that should say something)

And this thread went to shite

I agree, he's a bit more "military-minded"; but if he can get some young athletes in there that believe in his philosophy, they gon' be good down in Austin!!!

So if you exclude the program he excelled at and only count the dumpster fire he inherited which was giving up five hundy on the ground to the Y? Seems like a good methodology.

Not in 2015 IMO. Texas has to compete with a bunch of in state schools for their talent, LSU largely gets whoever they want from LA save the occasional steal by Saban or Sumlin. Both schools can pay whatever they need to. Both have great facilities.
However the word is out on what one has to deal with from the fans and media at Texas. Nick Saban and Urban Meyer have it easy by comparison. That town can eat coaches alive.

1. Sumlin would be foolish to leave A&M right now. He just got a huge upgrade at DC, the missing piece if you will. New Stadium, which I don't care what any of you say is amazing. Recruiting is at a high enough level now to win a NC.
2. USC is not going to hire someone who runs a Spread/Air Raid attack of any sort. They are a Pro-Style offense, and will continue to be as long as the people who are financially supporting the program are alive.
3. Lateral move is a little strong, but A&M is an attractive job right now, pays well, and really he has nothing to gain by going to USC. Just doesn't make any sense.

For the record your fans use the same logic with Keenum, Manziel and Sumlin

Not really. Strong went 7-6 with a young Theodore Bridgewater then built a team that had two and one losses after that and won a couple of conference titles.

I don't know the politics of the Texas job, just that it's arguably the best job in college football imo

Similar to people saying Sumlin would not be good without Manziel is it not?
Except Sumlin had prior success to back it up, and has found success relative to expectations since then.
Charlie Strong has not.
That dumpster fire is top 10-15 based on recruiting rankings and is a bottom 20 unit on offense and defense.
I guess Mack Brown gets credit for the win against OU last weekend in your mind?

Charlie Strong has more conference titles than Sumlin does. I'm not sure how you can say that. Strong has been a coordinator on a staff that has won a national title.
As for the Manziel thing, I never said that. Go take you petty argument with the people who argue that. Also, it isn't the same, we're talking about two teams with Charlie Strong, not one Sumlin at A&M.
