Steve Worster, RIP

Longhorn legend Steve Worster passed away Saturday at age 73.

Worster was among the most dominant figures in Darrell Royal's famed wishbone offense, a two-time first-team All-American and star running back on Texas’ 1969 and 1970 National Championship teams.

The legendary Longhorn and two-time All-American is a member of the Texas Athletics Hall of Honor as well as the Texas Sports, Texas High School Football and Cotton Bowl Halls of Fame.

"Steve was the toughest football player I have ever seen," said Longhorn teammate and College Football Hall of Fame offensive lineman Bob McKay. "He hit or was hit on every down and never backed down or slowed up."

When Worster was on magazine covers, his hometown of Bridge City was unincorporated. Because of the immense pride they felt for Worster, the residents voted to incorporate. He literally put his hometown on the map.
