...Mallett, Wilson, Mitchell, then Brandon Allen, his younger brother Austin Allen...I see at least an 8 year run or so where THE HOGS have the 1st Team ALL SEC QB calling the signals...yes, its definitely quarterback U

It seems that Gruden has at least a mild interest in the job. Kind of surprises me. Long shot that we get him, but a long shot is better than no shot.
One hangup might be his ESPN contract? If ESPN can do anything to screw the Hogs, they will.

At least if we got McDaniels we could use his father's influence to get recruits out of the fertile grounds of Ohio. Wait...

Mariucci might be worse. He's older and probably would hate recruiting. Seeing as that's about 85% of the game in CFB, a few years of that could ruin them.

WTF does that have to do with his time at Arkansas?
If there was a "QB school" in the SEC over the last 4 or 5 years, it was Arkansas. To suggest otherwise pretty much cements your status as a tard.

Yeah, because of Petrino.
Now he's gone.

I would go Georgia. Stafford and Murray (leaving out Cox's one year).

If and that is a big if, we could get JG, we would be Quarterback U. Every qb in the country would try to come here.

Being the best school for QBs in the SEC for 4 years =\= QB U

I could be wrong but I always believed that Josh McDaniels would be a much better college coach than NFL. His personality will not work on millionaires....just as Saban's didn't. However,I think it would work in college.

Because for next year we want to keep our assistants in place and let them run their systems. We need someone to just be a CEO, game manager, and big time recruiter. I would prefer Mariucci over McDaniels, although both are highly unlikely IMO.
If you want to keep your assistants in place and let them run their systems then just promote one of them.
The absolutely dumbest thing any AD can do is hire a "caretaker" head coach and force feed them the asst's that are already there. That is football suicide.
Go the Ohio State route. Promote an asst. as interim head coach for this year and then hire a "real" coach once the season has ended.
If Arkansas hires a "caretaker" coach (let's just call them Mike Shula) then you will be stuck in mud for 4 years and then be looking for a "real" coach 4 years too late.
And FYI: UGA with #1 overall pick and NFL starter Matthew Stafford/Aaron Murray > 3rd round bench warmer Mallett/Wilson.

The assumption that a "caretaker" from the outside is willing to take a one year deal is an uneducated one. Any guy that comes to Arkansas will demand a 5 year deal and in Gruden's case it may take a 10 year deal.
In the event that a Gruden would come and fail they would be on the hook for the duration of the contract unless he implodes Petrino style.

Fairly sure it isn't Gruden. I've been wrong before, but you don't hear Gruden's name associated with this job from anyone who is serious or has connections in coaching.
I said last week that the word was an NFL hire was possible. Not sure it will be one of these two, but it certainly could be. My understanding is that a current NFL OC reached out to Arky and there is mutual interest (perhaps has Arky connections, but I haven't heard back on who).

Gruden's agent did contact Penn State but it went nowhere because they wanted a 10 year deal

Josh McDaniels would be a perfect fit. I agree with this hire.
