State had a nice comeback, but what I want to focus on is Kamario and what Mizzou was or was not doing defensively to limit his runs. Kamario definitely had an off night and still went 3 tds 1 INT, but the biggest thing that stood out was his lack running and scrambling. He had 10 rushes for 7 yards (long of 12) and his few designed read plays, he made the obviously wrong decision. Not sure if it was a decision by the coaches to limit contact, bad execution and decision making by KT, good defensive execution by Mizzou, or a combination, but if state wants a prayer to beat bama, we are going to have to steal some first downs with Kamario’s legs. Mizzou went two high safetys most of the game and I key moments, so it seemed odd Kamario didn’t take advantage with his legs. He was a bit banged up towards the end of the game, but early it was a non factor.

Shamoan, building your expectations over anything involving Missouri is risky business. Trust me on this !

Mizzou usually has excellent front sevens and terrible DBs, so it may be that simple. That's been the case so far this season as well.

I did wonder why he didn’t run more when the receivers were covered. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think he should be doing a lot of designed runs because if he gets injured we are done. He went from running too much last season to staying in the pocket too long vs Miz, IMO. I kept waiting for him to roll out and take off if the pass wasn’t there. I wonder if the coaches have drilled “stay in the pocket” into his head. I wouldn’t think they’d be “saving it for Bama” with the game that close. I ain’t a football coach, so IDK…

Mizzou has a really good and disruptive DL.

well, considering our left tackle's struggles in pass pro, he is just as likely to get injured on a missed block with a helmet in his spinal column, which is why im fine with the 4 or so holding calls we can expect from that position. just dont let him get a clean hit. left tackle is a great run blocker, but not so much in pass protection.

multiple things can be true at the same time:
- mizzou's front 7 is legit
- kamario is a bit banged up, and was banged up further by the end of the game
- all season the play calling has limited designed runs for him. most state fans are pretty shocked by this, and want to see him use his legs more (whether through designed plays or scrambles). unsure if it's about health/limiting contact or what.
- state has a good RB in Fluff Bothwell, and doesn't need kamario's legs as much as last season.

DBs seem key here. The ball is going to get airmailed a lot.

Your RB was averaging 5 yards a carry. Why in the world would you want to even bother putting your potential Heisman candidate QB in a position to get his head knocked to the other side of the field when he can just turn and hand it off his RB who's having a dang good night? If you don't have to have your QB running, then don't.

Based off of what I’ve read and heard, there is big emphasis by Lebby on him staying in the pocket. As far as the RPO’s, he made the wrong read a few times against Missouri. One play in particular he chose pass instead of handing the ball to Fluff. The hole was wide open and no Missouri defenders in the middle of the field.

Yeah, I saw at least one hold that got called and thought, “Yeah, that one was a good idea.”

When I talk about the QB running, I’m talking about with little to no contact (hopefully). Like roll out and run out of bounds if no one is open and you have room. I don’t think anyone wants to turn him into Nick Fitzgerald (hopefully), but I do miss that ol boy.

1. I think he has been banged since at least the SC game. He had a run late in that game that looked like he was moving way slower than usual. And he didn’t seem shifty at all against Mizzou.

2. I think they are doing everything they can to keep him healthy because they have NO PLAN at backup QB. Like, if he gets hurt then State isn’t winning another SEC game. The options behind him are a walk on from Jackson Prep and two not good retreads in Swann and Rashada (yes, that Rashada… he’s now the 4th string QB at State).

3. The offense has worked without him running it much, so why reinvent the wheel if you don’t have to? Top 5 in total offense, Top 15 in scoring offense, Top 30 in rushing offense. All with Kamario basically just being a pocket passer and mostly relying on Fluff in the run game.
