Apparently Mullen was never offered and he wasn't given the stamp of approval by the fan base or Urban. Word is that Meyer and Mullen weren't the best of buddies.

2.65M for finishing 5th in the West. Love being out of the cellar huh.
I really don't think you should be talking shite when you just paid your coach about the same for winning 5 games, placing last, & losing to Jax St.

Since the fanbase votes on their coach, how did the voting go for Muschump to be hired as coach?

2.65/year? pretty cheap IMO I'd pay him around $3M a year
It's Mississippi State, if he does well he'll go somewhere, if he starts sucking they fire him...why pay him more?

He won 18 games the previous 2 years with a 2nd and 3rd in the west. I think the situations are a little different.

No coach in college football is worth that much. What a great time to be in coaching.
Really? Mack Brown definitely is. If you look at how much $$$ he is making UT, the amount they pay him is a steal.

Muschamp obviously wasn't a favorite of the fans either. I think you misunderstood what I meant. All I meant was the fans weren't enamored with the idea of Mullen coming back. I think the level of excitement is about equal with Muschamp. However, that was with Mullen's staff included. I think that the Muschamp hire has the potential to be great if he brings in the staff that's being tossed around.

It may workout- but I think Foley panicked after being turned down a few times by jumping on someone he knew would accept the "official" offer.
I just think acting like Muschamp was the 1st choice is a little ridiculous

1.4 million is the buyout btw

The fans have given nothing to make them believe that Mullen was even offered "unofficially".

Mullen is a terrible recruiter, Foley would have never hired him.
Strong would've been hired before Mullen.

I love these bullshite myths. 90% of the recruiting in college football is done by the assistants. A head coach's recruiting is only as good as the coaches he hires. A head coach is like the sales manager at a car dealership. Most of the time, he only steps in at the end to help close the deal
You think Gene Chizik's dynamic personality is what suddenly brought recruits to Auburn?

loz
Not true and when Mullen was an assistant at UF he was a terrible recruiter.
When Foley hired Zook, it was because he was a great recruiter at UF.

No, do you think that Urban Meyer stepping down and the huge shakeup it caused with our recruits was because of another reason?

The fact still remains that Mullen brought in these assistant coaches to recruit and they suck at it. It still falls back on Mullen. No way Miss St. Should be behind Ole Miss this year when there is a 4-5 game difference in the win column.

Well since Mullen was an assistant at Florida, and only assistants recruit, a Florida fan would know the extent of mullens recruiting prowess, no?

Is the buyout really only $1.4 million?
If so...

Maybe Mullen is the exception to what most people would do? I mean it is not at all impossible for him to not want to stay and try and build something. Regardless of how he recruits he has totally re-vamped MSU football. I mean 2 years ago we went 4-8. If you had told me last summer we were going to beat Florida and Georgia in the same season I would have laughed at you. Fact is he is doing great things and I think he likes Starkville a lot.
