Thing is though, this is nothing like the UT football coach search. UT has a shithole stadium that is a rustbucket and have been irrelevant in football for a long time. State is in process of powering up a state of the art baseball facility and is in the cws as we speak. Comparing this search to the UT football search sounds like jealous UT football fans attempting to associate themselves with the success of state, without actually having any success.

Or more than a quarter of their regionals, all time. He also had the greatest season in UK baseball history, winning 45 games

It's how you choose to look at it

I'm fine with hiring Hendo if we win the title. But anything other than that, I want to go another direction.

Even with a CWS appearance and national COTY?

Absolutely, the players aren’t getting enough credit for this run. It took a walkoff in the regional, super regional, and first round of CWS to get to this point. Last time I checked, Gary has zero at bats this year.

This. We hear this with EVERY HC opening "why not give Saban a call? Cant hurt to ask him" Well yeah, it can hurt to ask because when you get turned down over and over it makes you look bad. LSU went through this and they ended up with O after going after Saban and Meyer.

Yes. Especially if these Schloss rumors are true. I'd take Tadlock over Hendo. I'd take Butch over Hendo. I'd promote JG over Hendo. All are better options to me.

To quote Mangum, "We kept the same approach Gautreau taught us. It's what got us here, and it's how we will continue to win."

I'd still take any of the others over Hendo.

I don't think anything will equal UT's football search. That shite show was a circus of epic proportions.

Just curious- what kind of job do you think Henderson did at Kentucky.

Kentucky has been to the NCAAT 7 times in their history. Henderson is responsible for two of those. He had a better SEC winning % than Cohen did. He was named SEC COY while there and the best season in Kentucky history. Their class this year that led college baseball with 10 draft picks, Henderson recruited all of them. So all in all, I think he did a good job there. Kentucky firing him after a 15-15 conference season was probably a bit of an overstep IMO, but that seems to be what many of you want to hone in on. Andy Lopez was fired at Florida and later won a national title at Arizona. Getting fired doesn’t always mean you’re a bad coach or even necessarily mean you did a bad job.

He was handed the keys to the Kentucky team that Cohen had revamped and made 2 regionals in 8 years.

Cohen made the NCAAT twice in 5 years. Mingione took Henderson’s team to the supers in year one and a preseason top 15 team nowhere this year. It’s just not a great job.

The players get plenty of credit but I have never seen fans give a HC as little credit as State fans want to give Henderson. I believe much of this has to do with 1) the big names shooting down the job and 2) Henderson wasn’t expected to do what he did. But at the end of the day, winning is winning, and Henderson keeps doing it. I’ve said it in previous threads and will say it again, winning close games is what separates good coaches from bad ones in baseball because no one is going to win all their games by 7 runs.

Our fanbase is split on this. About 40% (Most Message Board Folks) don't want Hendo. About 40% (Casual Fans) want Hendo. And about 20% (folks who don't care) are neutral.

I'm convinced that success on the diamond is a product of a school being serious about baseball in terms of money and resources + a competent coach who is willing to put in the work.
I'm pretty sure Cohen is serious about winning, so if Henderson is willing to put in the work I say hire the man

Kendall Rogers @KendallRogers
BREAKING: I’m hearing from sources that @IndianaBase head coach Chris Lemonis will be the next head coach at @HailStateBB, and that top #HailState assistant Jake Gautreau will stay on staff. If that doesn’t change, I really like that duo.

For State’s sake I hope Chris Lemonis is better than the last Indiana coach to leave— Tracy Smith at Arizona State.

Paging to OP Farmer with a little trivia question.

Who was the last team to lose to State's new head coach while at Indiana?
