I admitted earlier tha I didn't want to play UF every year
I enjoy the game, don't get me wrong. And it's not this big hoop-la that we have to. But I'd definitely like an easy W against Mizzou. I mean, who the frick wouldn't?
And it's less about Bama for me and more about the fact that I'm sick of everyone acting like some of these rivalries should be treated like they are sacred. They are more of a big deal on this board than in real life.

I promise they care more about UF than Bama.
I live in Knoxville. UT alum. I strongly disagree with this. UF hatred was more from about 95-05, but not before and certainly not since then.

Not to mention originality, but making UA-UT and AU-GA non-conference games has been mentioned ad nauseum.
So what's the problem with it?

Not once in my 25 years have I heard a UT fan or alum say they care more about Bama than UF. UT fans fricking hate Florida.
Then you're either lying or living in some sort of bubble. Alabama is Tennessee's biggest rival.

Well I've never met you apparently. And her dad is obviously a little, uh, older.
I never said there aren't any UT fans that don't care about the TSIO. But I haven't met any IRL that are up in arms about the fact that they may not get to play Bama every year if they were to do away with the perms.
You could be different. I'm going off of the many UT fans and alum that I personally know.

Personally I love the LSU/UF games and I think playing Florida is good for LSU in some ways because it gives a legit prime time game for both programs and it helps LSU recruit in Florida to some extent.
I do think with the SEC essentially splitting into two conferences it makes sense to only consider the within division games when it comes to deciding who wins each division but that's a separate argument... and one that could be completely avoided if the SEC went to something like the roommate switch instead of the present status with two seven team conferences and only a couple overlapping games/team (even with 9 conference games you still play less than half of the other division and you lose a lot in so doing IMO).

So when you hire a new head coach in 2009 and he mentions Fla in his opening press conference, I guess there is no vitriol towards the Gators?

If tradition is so important, then why aren't you playing on the TSIO this year? I mean it's all about tradition, right? Can't change things, but you did.
Yeah, it's totally the same thing.

Of course they are...if you are over 50.

Why in the hell do Bama and Tennessee pretend to hate each other so much? Clearly this is some kind of inbred love affair? Good God, you would think we were asking you to drop football.

I'm sure you'd be totally OK with playing the WLOCP twice every 10 years wouldn't you? You guys would get your tank tops, jorts, and golf chains in a wad if that happened.

Can you explain yourself? Only the game is important, right? What does it matter if it is a conference game or not?

If Alabama had won the national title, I can assure you the comment would have been about Alabama.

It wouldn't bother me to not play Georgia. But with Bama, it is both UT and Aub. And you guys quit playing Auburn for 40 years anyway.

One scenario diminishes the value of the game, and one scenario diminishes the value of the name of the game.

There is vitriol, but certainly not as much as there is towards Bama.
In the Spurrier/Fulmer years the game was similar to LSU/Bama now. Not really a lasting rivalry, just a big game.
Maybe one day it becomes a big game again, but in its current state it's no different than Tennessee/UGA or Tennessee/S. Carolina.

What???? Not play the poodles????

How is the value diminished? It would give you guys one less conference loss. That would be good!

Still problems with this and essentialy will divide the conference even more
We as a conference are unstable at 14 teams/two divisions with a 12 game regular season. 14 teams is unsustainable.

It's bigger because the streak is longer, but I agree with the sentiment.
