He was probably going to lose every game sans The Citadel including humiliating losses to UT, his old team, and Team Dabo. He would rather quit on his team than face it like a man.

Typical Spurrier. All about him.

What recruiting class? You guys are short sighted. You see what you want to see.

So many times we jump to conclusions and do not know the whole story. He very well may have been diagnosed with a serious health issue and was just told of the test results.

You're trying to hard to encourage a melt that's just not going to happen. This is what we wanted. Try less.

Most likely scenario: Spurrier told Tanner he was done after this year, they talked about it more and they agreed this was the best decision.

I'm wondering if Tanner told Spurrier that he needed to "retire" after this year, and the HBC decided he'd just retire right now. Spurrier's attitude (and I love it) could certainly make that a plausible occurrence.

Not sure many great coaches could just leave, be happy and live for a long time, but he's definitely one of them.

As long as the bourbon keeps flowing, he'll keep living.

We have not much to lose recruiting wise. Go ahead and hire a new coach to get a jump on recruiting. This isn't hard to figure out.

Um, if the coach you want is already in the game you are going to have to wait a while.

Honestly, there has always been something to be said for that logic. The season is a loss. The earlier you find a new HC, the earlier he can start working on keeping the recruiting class together.

The problem with the logic, though, is that you can really only find a great assistant to fill the position. Any HC worth his salt -- and worthy of respect -- will never leave his program in the middle of October. So even if you find one willing to make the jump, neither you nor he can announce it at this point in time, so the recruiting advantage is minimal.

His arse quit. All the whining and whacks in the world can't help that.

Les owns Spurrier. Period.

Lane Kiffen begs to differ.

Oh wait, you said worth a salt.

Jim McIlwain did this last year, so it can happen and it's happened recently in our own division.

the only thing I have found classless about HBC is that he didn't vote for Dmac for hiesman cause dmac stomped his shite in single handidly. the dude could dish an arse whooping but couldn't take one. pretty sorry on his part.

Unless he has an immediate health issue, I don't see how the OP can be denied. The guy has talked and talked about how he would be there for his recruiting class. He's quitting, plain and simple. Mid-season. It's weak. Period.

This is absolutely correct. This is an absolutely classless, cowardly, and selfish move by Spurrier to keep a few more losses off his belt. He bailed on his players that he committed to with his bullshite press conference back in July.

Anybody who disagrees is just as classless.
