How is record vs ranked teams and record vs unranked teams unbiased?
The stat themselves aren't biased but how they are portrayed is. Most coaches have stat lines that look like that. There are probably only a handful of coaches with records that are around 50 50 like that who aren't at a powerhouse university(Bama,Florida,USC,Texas).
the exceptions I can think of now off hand are Chip Kelly and Les Miles. However i'd wager Miles record at OSU was 50 50 or so against top 25 teams.
Spurrier is 16-24 against top 25 opponents since he's been at USC

I'd say that's pretty great considering where South Carolina was when Spurrier got here.
I can see your point. At the same time though, the Big 10 isn't the SEC. Bulimia will have his hands full. Especially being in the toughest conference division in the nation.

spurrier has done wonders for your program. He's a hell of a coach.

I agree completely. I was worried about that stat when it first came out till someone posted petrinos record while he was here, they're very similar win percentage wise. If bielema can do what he did at wisconsin here he won't win as many championships but we'll consistently be competing with Bama and LSU for the division title. I'd be ecstatic with that.
Plus he'll be gone in a few years to the NFL if he is successful, we'll hear some very similar rhetoric to what he gave wisconsin fans while he disappears in the middle of the night without telling anyone. If he can tend the program till then and keep us where petrino had us then i'm ok with him not winning the big one for us.

We have a weird understanding here. It's unnatural.

Is Michigan really still considered a top-tier program?
Posted on 4/2/13 at 1:20 am to thefloydian
The same Michigan that's like 1-8 to OSU the past 9 years?

I would guess the order would go:
1) Ohio State
2) Michigan
3) Penn State
???
But now Nebraska has joined the Big 10, so they might make a "Big 4"?? Michigan State has good teams from time to time, but they might still fall below the others on a consistent level....

Surely you've seen that stat that pops up on the Rant once a day that shows how inflated his record is vs the lower-tier B1G teams and how sub-par his record is vs the B1G big boys?
13-14 vs the Top 25 at Wisconsin
for reference,
Petrino was 10-12 vs the Top 25 at Arkansas.
Spurrier is 15-24 vs the Top 25 at South Carolina.
Point being, you beat who you're supposed to beat and beat a ranked team or three a year, you'll have a good year most years.

Spurrier has turned them into a beast and a top 10/15 program which is amazing to me. I can easily see them hire a great coach that will pick up where
Steve left off.
Good luck cock fans,

You Cocks are a level headed bunch for the most part. If there was a vacancy at USC and UT in the next couple years, I would think USC would have more upside. Like you said though, that is dependent on many variables.
I think when Spurrier leaves SC will be fine. I believe they have established a winning program. Just don't hire Dooley.

It somehow relates to being an insider. I suppose not only do you get "ironclad lock" information on who your next coach will be, but apparently being an insider also gives you an extended johnson.

I think USCe can do it. Spurrier has done a good job of changing their public image to a pushover to a legitimate program. It started with Alshon Jeffrey and Jadaveon Clowney and Marcus Lattimore staying in-state. If they can get all the local talent to stay I think they will be alright. It'll be interesting to see if they can hire someone good after Spurrier.
