Was in attendance for the Missouri spring game, to watch a former player of mine. Their numbers are not even close to what was there. I'd say maybe 1/4 of that total was there.

As much as I hate defending Ole Miss, they are built in a more rural area like MSU, just a college town.

That's also a good point. I know when I went to school, the undergrad students of OM was larger than the population of the town. I wonder how many other SEC schools are like that. I honestly dont know, but do the students out-way the population of Starkville as well?

Tennessee's spring game was in the middle of a severe thunder storm that had quarter sized hail coming down at times. It rained all day leading up to the game as well. No thanks

Starkville and Oxford are in the top part of MS. Very low population. The population in MS is in the southern region of the state. The nearest city with a population is central MS ( Jackson) which is still 2 1/2 hours away. I bet Auburn is much closer to larger populations, even what you'd call smaller towns.

If I were say , 45 minutes drive away I'd probably go more often for the kicks but I'm just one of those who doesn't waste that much time to see a "spring" game which has never told me much. But hey, to each his own.

Same in Starkville, it's grown a lot for what it was 10 years ago but yes, the students are the population.

This is what I tried to explain to an LSU who asked me once that with our big baseball support, why don't we have bigger crowds for a tuesday or wednesday non-conference game.

So I said because you are in Baton Rouge with a large population who can drive 10 minutes down I-10 and be there in 10 minutes and be in bed for 10PM. We have to drive and get home at 1am and on a week day its a little hard to do.

Yea, sounds about the same for Oxford. But I know the schools undergrad population in Oxford is growing like crazy, since I was a freshman there, we had the largest Freshman class in school history, then the next 4 after us did as well. AtM has a huge student population, and so does UF. I'd bet the students out-way College Staion. I'm Not sure about Gainseville tho.

IMO Just like preseason NFL, everyone knows the game or games dont matter, but it's nice to get a little preview of your team, especially if you have some questionable guys who are replacing good starters, or if you have a starting QB battle.

I went to see Fitzgerald play several years ago only because he was a new signee and Mullen said he went under the radar. I did want to see our latest signee play but was out of town. I think the QB position might be the only reason worth going.
