You seem to be overlooking the part where Tennessee never won it all until Tee Martin took over.

I don't think this proves Martin was better than Manning...but it is interesting.

Peyton made up for a lot of deficiencies on his squads and did so his entire football career but ultimately it comes down to team and one player can only do so much. The 98 team's success was due to a total team effort and a roster stacked full of NFL players.

Minus the QB position it was a substantially better team across the board than any of Peyton's squads but the formula that Tennessee used in 1998 is the same one Saban uses now and why Bama can win even with so-so but efficient QB play - stack the roster at every position and have your QB manage the game using fantastic skill players and a great defense. With that formula you don't need an outstanding QB just one who can lead a superior team.

Ain't even close - ESPN/ABC should still be embarrassed about what they did to him

He backed up his talk with an unlikely win. The guy was a leader.

That said, throw Fran Tarkington in the list.

Archie Manning was the best I ever saw. The dude could completely carry his team even with a broken arm. No slight to the kids, but Papa was best.

1. Archie Manning
2. Peyton Manning
3. Eli Manning

In that order but #2 was the most surprising.

No, it was meant to be a criticism, that he kept his feet moving as he was scanning the field, rather than setting them before he threw. It was supposed to imply that he was nervous/didn't handle pressure well.

I knew what you meant

David Greene was better than both Stafford and Murray.

Stafford is all hype. Dude has the size and arm strength but he's the type of guy that would never be able to win the big games. Similar to Cutler. He's had Megatron to save his arse his whole career and we'll all see this year how shitty he is with no beast to just throw it up to all year

Archie Manning and it is not even close.

Then, two other guys named Manning. All three should have won the Heisman IMO.

His prediction isn't what made him stand out. It was the win. That was the whole point. had they lost the prediction would have been forgotten as well as Namath.

Had they lost that game Namath wouldn't have even been a footnote in the NFL. I can't think of a single noteworthy thing he did other than the prediction and leading his team to a win. And the win is what made the prediction noteworthy. If they had lost that game, nobody would even be talking about Joe Namath. he would not have gotten the endorsements, and there would have been no book.

Tarkenton was a good one to be on the list.

I'm with you on this one. The kids on this site missed something and don't fully understand what Archie Manning was or could do.

I have a hard time getting on the Eli train, but it would be very hard for me to argue against the other two.
