Arkansas would have left earlier had they gone to the Big 8.

It didn't help that all the SWC teams except Arkansas and Rice were on probation in the 80s.

Even if the horns and hogs weren’t ranked so high, it’d still be fun. Baum is going to be a hornets nest for yall though

I have no doubt about that. You guys have a great baseball atmosphere.

Then why did all y'all leave?

In a statement on August 1, 1990, Arkansas athletic director Frank Broyles cited the Southwest Conference's (SWC) declining national respectability and visibility as the primary reasons for the Razorbacks' decision to leave the conference for the Southeastern Conference (SEC).
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
Broyles's Perspective:
Broyles emphasized that the SWC's future looked uncertain, and the move to the SEC offered Arkansas a chance to compete with a higher profile, more established conference.
SWC's Decline:
The SWC was facing issues, including NCAA sanctions and declining revenue, which Broyles saw as a threat to Arkansas's long-term competitiveness.
SEC's Appeal:
The SEC, with its strong football tradition and national prominence, represented a significant step up for the Razorbacks, offering greater visibility and potential for success.
Broyles's Decision:
Broyles, who had a long and successful career at Arkansas, made the decision to move the program to the SEC, which was a controversial move at the time, but one that he felt was necessary for the future of Arkansas football.

They will screw up the SEC if Bama allows it.

Nah - I was just stating the facts. And as a fact, we OWNED Texas when we were in different conferences: 27-6 in the 2000 Cotton Bowl, 31-7 in the 2014 Texas Bowl, and 40-21 in Fayetteville in 2021. But, alas, now you are back in our conference and back to your winning ways. Darn.
