Had Sherman burned Athens, it would have resulted in millions of dollars worth of improvements...

They can spend all the money they want. USC is still located in Columnbia, SC and nothing is going to change that

Just interesting that they’re soliciting this ambitious fundraising plan with little actual detail about what is hoped to be accomplished

From what they'd said on the SC boards (where I rarely visit and never post) the folks with the bulk of the funds solicited the University, not the other way around.

Columbia has 3 rivers flowing through it with great fishing and canoeing. A national park just a stones throw away from Willams-Brice. 3 or 4 state parks with hiking and biking trails. Our zoo is ranked as one of the best in the United States. Lake Murray was the largest man made lake when constructed and provides great boating, swimming and fishing. You're also 2.5 hours away from the beach or the mountains from Columbia. Columbia has alot going for it if you open your eyes.

Columbia has come a LONG way in the last 20 years. It really isn't a bad town these days. If it weren't for the brutal heat, it would be a really good town.

Agreed. I prefer it to the traffic and general congestion of Charleston any day.

There is a saying we have in the summer here " the only difference between Columbia and Hell is a screen door".

Love seeing communities finally investing in derelict and rundown areas that have been neglected for generations

This has already been done. The new money is to add premium seating etc. to the stadium.

One rumor circulating around is condos/suites on the east side of the stadium.

^^^ That joke wasn't funny the 1st time you told it, and has only gone down hill in the 350 times you've told it since then. I'd suggest some new material.

They might spend some money
on an exterminator. Actually saw a rat scurrying across the floor of the rest room on my last trip to that ugly stadium.
