Btw a few fans saying we are elite shouldn't be used to judge a fan base.
That's not how the SEC rant operates.

Yeah, Richt created the schedule to avoid bama and LSU. All him.
He also intentionally scheduled both teams in 08 just to shake things up.

I listen to him occasionally and it's almost too much to bear. I would never call in and I listen maybe 10 minutes per week, if that.
I don't mind venting on a message board that has nothing to do with him

Good job of scheduling LSU in their worst season in the last 10 years. I give Richt kudos.

Hey- I say congrats to USCe....They should be proud of their season.
Eleven wins while playing in the SEC is to be commended, IMHO-and I was SEC proud to see them slap down the Huskers.

Did the SEC office ever explain some of the strange scheduling?
I can't listen to that fool at all.

If you had asked in 1999 if this could EVER be done, I guarantee you that 99% of this board would have said HELL NO.

Agreed. But I'm sure none of us would have seen the bottom fall out at both Tennessee and Florida, who were dominant at the time.

Thread loses all credibilty with a link to Cockytalk. We are not elite, but at the same time we have never been closer. So we are in new territory as a fan base and some after all the years of losing are just a little excited.

You are right. Football is cyclical... I just hope that we never drop back to the depths of the late 90s. Spurrier is building something here, brick by brick. If we can comehow sustain it after he leaves, then things will be just fine.

If Bama, UF, UT, Mich, FSU all go through down cycles then so will USC.
Your next hire is the key. No one wants to follow the legend and rarely does that person work out.
I would expect that USC will have several more good to great years and then Spurs age will catch up with him. He is so stubborn he's going to try to get that SEC title at USC even if he's getting senile like Bobby Bowden.
He knows that he has a limited window before he's gets too old and UT and UF get back to full strength. I wish he would win one while we are down so he can retire finally. At this pace he's going to be coaching at 70 and I don't think that was ever in his plans.
ETA: I just mean he knows that this is the perfect timing for him to get USC a title and is the easiest path there has been in a long time and he wants to take advantage of it.

So, let me ask you this... if UT and UF both come back, which they will, is it impossible for us to sustain success as well? I realize we don't have the recruiting resources as UF, but definitely have a WAY deeper talent pool than Tennessee. And Tennessee isn't busting down the doors and taking all of the good recruits from SC anymore. Could all of us be successful at once? Or do we get knocked back down to the cellar with UK and Vandy?

"Simple minds will tell you in order for someone to be up someone else must be done." And after this season I think UF, and especially UT, will be done for longer than previously expected.

That's not really what I meant. This is USC's time to get one if there ever has been one. You can certainly sustain some level of success when UF and UT come back. When we were winning the East UT and UG were strong for the most part but the West was lame save for Bama a couple of years. Now the West is strong. USC can't catch a break in that regard. You should be able to win the East but currently have to face monsters in the SECCG. It's just unlucky for USC right now.
I can see you guys replacing UT actually. They are in a world of hurt.

USC is up and UF is down. Is that not true? Sometimes keeping things simple is the best option, no?
I'm not knocking USC. I hope Spurrier gets you one while we are rebuilding. I hope he does not after we are back.

It will definitely be difficult, with the schedule and our west matchups next year, but the 2012 version of the Gamecocks could be better than the 2011 version... and 2011 was supposed to be "the year." Never would have thought we would win 11 after losing Garcia and Lattimore. Thankfully, the better of those two will be back next year.

all successful at once - no, not and win championships
down to the cellar - probably not
Posted on 1/4/12 at 1:29 pm to roadGator
Only room for two, maybe three to be successful at once.

For which year? In previous years there's nothing to explain. You have 1 cross divisional per year and 2 rotating. Sometimes (like 2011) you avoid the hard teams (or at least the big name teams). Some years (like in 2008) you get all of them.
As for 2012, looking at it logically taking off bama was really the only thing that made sense on our schedule. Auburn is a definite stay and we played at ole miss last year so they are coming here. Now, as for moving SC down and flip flopping UT and VU, I have no idea.
