Just cancel the basketball program, turn the court into a pool, and have our dominant S and D teams call the Auburn Arena home.

if this was any other school (i.e. bama), this would be a nonstory and everyone would cry foul of that one kid and not even link the university

I would love for another SEC team to get just a little bit of the PR firestorm we've had this year.

Any publicity is good publicity!

Ouch!!! That is going to sting. Tulane got the hammer brought down on them if I am correct back in the day for point shaving.

Are any of you Aubs pissed at AU over all the negative stuff the past couple years?
Not in the least. I'm pissed at Cecil and I'm really pissed with Varez.

I ask beacuse my best freind (AU grad who usually defends them) is pissed about it. He's tired of all the negative stuff and thinks Auburn should do more to prevent it.
I'd be curious as to what your AU grad friend thinks AU could do to prevent what happened. In the Cam situation, AU was made aware of the allegations and investigated them. They felt as though Cam didn't do anything wrong, and the NCAA eventually agreed. AU maintained that they recruited Cam by the book, and the NCAA also agreed with that. In the Varez case, a kid makes a back-alley deal to get some money unbeknownst to the coaching staff. Another player finds out and goes to the coaching staff. The coaching staff then goes directly to the FBI and NCAA. They didn't go to Varez and tell him to never do it again and sweep it under the rug. They didn't try to cover anything up like the OSU and PSU situations. They reported it immediately.
On the contrary to what your friend thinks, I'm very proud of the Auburn Athletic Department these past couple years. They've had a lot of shite thrown their way and handled it spotlessly every time.

The Tulane situation had cocaine and coaches paying players, along with the point shaving. Apples and oranges.

The Alabama game was more peculiar. Only three days earlier at Mississippi State, Auburn had scored a season-high 88 points led by Ward's career-high 24. The Tigers had only three turnovers, the lowest in a game since 1970.
Against Alabama, Ward scored 3 and committed six of Auburn's 20 turnovers. The game was notable for other reasons. Auburn was called for three technical fouls -- two for players hanging on the rim and one on Barbee -- that led to six Alabama points. The Tigers made only 12 of 26 free throws.

The two games -- a 56-53 loss Jan. 25 at Arkansas and a 68-50 loss to Alabama at home on Feb. 7 -- are starkly different.
In the Arkansas game, Ward sustained what was described as a thigh bruise just moments into the game and never returned.
What do they think he faked a bruised thigh? The Alabama game seems fishy as hell but idk how you shave points when you're on the bench.

Player A> player B, A fakes injury sits out game. Teams' expectations are then lowered due to more talented player sitting on bench.

I agree. I'm not sure how he's supposed to be cheating when he's on the bench.

Maybe you should research the Arizona State point shaving scandal from the 90s if you want a look at a comparable situation.

The Arky game could very well have been a test run to see if Ward would follow through so the person putting him up could trust making a future bet.

Yeah but player B isn't intentionally missing shots and intentionally turning the ball over like player A. Look at the points difference between the two games.

You sound knowledgeable. Did you put Ward up to this??
I kid, I kid
