We don't know for sure, all we can do is speculate. Moffitt is no longer the S&C coach, maybe that rubbed him the wrong way. Maybe he was told he wasn't guaranteed to be the starter next year and that, plus O letting Nuss play damn near the whole Arkansas game pissed him off. Maybe he didn't want to be part of a rebuild going into his junior year.

Who knows. One thing we do know, this will go down as his final pass as a Tiger, and arguably his best as a Tiger as well:

Has Brian Kelly ever developed a decent NFL QB?

Have most coaches? There aren’t a lot of “decent NFL quarterbacks”

I’d probably frame it as “good college QBs”

He wants to go to a team that is ok with taking 7 seconds to throw the ball

I hate to see Johnson leave because he seemed like a good person and was my favorite LSU player. But the hire they made was a disaster and I understand why no one wants to stay.

When I read your posts in my head, I do it in the voice of a person with an IQ in the low 70’s. Room temperature.

If they're starting over with a new scheme, Nussmeier has far superior physical skills. Johnson loses whatever edge he has on Nuss.
And there is the Walker Howard issue, too.

Good kid. However, his daddy trying to tell the head coach what to do won’t work with Kelly.

He wasn't my favorite player until he threw that perfect sideline strike to Jaray Jenkins to shut-up aggie.

Kelly told him he was gonna be bringing in a portal QB as a one year rental, and it’s obvious that Walker will take over after that
