I now understand why you are so mean sonny.

I guess I’d be mean too if I was constantly ridiculed and laughed at because I was such an ignorant moron.

Here’s to your struggles….

You ignore all of the issues with the practice (and all of the obvious future headaches created by the practice) and rely solely on the principle that this 51 year old salesman (which is his job... to sell OU) is not putting a gun to the head of 17 year olds.

He is basically/unofficially stripping the kids rights to visit before the kids are officially required to do so (national letter of intent when they sign away their rights to the university).
And when circumstances change (because the support staff and coaches want promotions elsewhere and these 17 year olds kids lives change with their underwear), the kids will not be prepared to adjust because of Venables "honor" code.

This is silly and contrived. How is he stripping any rights?? He is simply saying be sure, he is not forcing them to commit, in about six cases in July, he told them, hey, do what you want, visit who you want, but if you want to come here, make sure you are truly committed, and they all took visits, came back and committed or in one case decided to NOT visit another school because he made his mind. Venables is not holding a proverbial gun to their heads, they don't HAVE to commit to OU, but they are, and I think that is what is REALLY at the bottom of your contrived objection.

Even in this age of NIL OU will still be going on probation every 4 or 5 years or so. Typical, but at least The Bootleggers boy made it worth it with MNCs. It won't be that way for BV though because his schedule will be stacked with programs that can and will stomp that sooner arse. Switzer didn't have to worry about that so much. You might still go to Texas and get players, but you won't come to Georgia and get players that Kirby actually covets. You'll see.

This is laughable... OU has not been on probation for 25 years, about the same time of Georgia's last probation. Alabama has been on probation since then... Your math and argument is silly.

A commit to OU is not in OU Jail. The commit may decommit and look around for any reason-not just the reasons you gave. But, but, but, Venables is not holding his scholarship offer for him while he looks around again. Venables will work his butt off to find a replacement.

Example: Caleb Williams entered the portal and told Venables that OU was at the top of the list but he wanted to look around. That very day, Jeff Lebby, OC/QB Coach contacted Dillon Gabriel of UCF who had entered the portal and was about to begin classes at UCLA. Venables did not hold Caleb Williams spot for him. Also, Venables was teaching Caleb and the entire team that no single player is more important than the team.

Example: Ashton Cozart, 4 star WR 2023 recruit. 6 foot 3 inches height with 4.4 speed in the 40 committed to OU in February, 2023. He heard the Venables "definition of commitment" speech. He took an Official Visit to Oregon on May 20. Venables pulled his scholarship offer to OU on May 22 and began recruiting wide receivers again. It was obvious that Cozart was not completely committed.

As Venables tells every recruit and family, "don't give me a commitment until you have taken all of your visits, vetted all the programs, and made a decision. Then commit". Then Venables tells a story of a guy who dates a girl for two years and they decide to marry next June. The week after the engagement, the guy tells his fiance that he wants to be certain he has made the right decision so he is going to date around. To sum up, Brent says, make up your mind and commit when you are certain.

Problem rests with the Notre Dame coach who does not have the balls to tell his recruits not to commit until they are really committed.

Take care of YOUR program and things will work out. I predict that unlike with LR over the last several years, we won't be losing as many (or any) high profile recruits late in the cycle.

Why would a head coach stop recruiting a player of need at a certain position simply because he has a player's verbal? These guys have cultivated these relationships for years and keep in contact daily with a multitude of guys.

So if a guy commits is the head coach just going to quit calling these other guys? Sorry guys it's over, I got my man? Only, if he's an idiot. So I have no idea how Venerables stops recruiting these different position players even when someone gives his verbal. Do you?
